Yahoo and Bing show Java 6 first.  Perhaps Oracle can add this to their lawsuit.

Not sure you can blame Oracle or even Google.

Maybe this Javadoc is the one that's the most linked to. Try "java file 7".

Irritating, but not surprising given the nature of indexing without
funding.

But that would involve giving Google money ;-)

Not so. It would just require Oracle to play Google's game by their rules. :)

Since Oracle took over, documentation got harder to find. They relocated stuff and a lot of links lead to 404. Happens almost on a weekly basis, so I miss how it was before.

True, but I recall that Google lead to Java 1.4 even when Sun was still
running (and there were already Java 5 & 6).

I think it's understandable. Generally speaking, many online docs
generally reference the latest or whatever's current for their
dependencies. And if nothing is changed, someone else might link to
that library in turn, then get linked to by someone else, and so on.
Therefore, when a new version of something upstream and popular --
like JSE API -- comes out, Google index sees that version as the new
kid on the block, while the previous versions have all this incumbency
built in. Plus, as was pointed out, Oracle moved docs around a bunch
of times, so it's kind of hard for newer API references to gain enough
traction to beat some older API in the index.

To be fair, this is more of "since Sun went away". Something tells me
the majority of links were going to be bad no matter who took over.
(I suppose they could do a better job with keeping old redirects
live...)

1.4.2 has been the top search result for some considerable time.
Whenever I find myself googling for the API docs, 1.4.2 is generally
at the top of the list...
