Hi there,

On behalf of the JaCoCo Team I'm proud to announce, what you might already know from other sources, but with some additional information:

Over the last ten years we have done a lot of work contributing to the world of Java code coverage tools. One of those tools is EclEmma, free Java code coverage tool for Eclipse ( http://www.eclemma.org/ ) built on top of JaCoCo library ( http://www.eclemma.org/jacoco/ ).

Few days ago our proposal to make EclEmma an Eclipse.org project has been approved - https://projects.eclipse.org/proposals/eclemma Yay!

Why?

All this started from a question about making EclEmma available in Eclipse by default - https://twitter.com/mickaelistria/status/702428933418041344
Also not a secret that our activity on EclEmma was quite low over past months.
So that we decided to do this move in order to attract more contributors, ensure that EclEmma remains relevant in the future and also to be able to include EclEmma in future EPP packages.

What does this mean for EclEmma and JaCoCo users?

It should not have any big impact:
We plan on making the migration from the original EclEmma to EclEmma at Eclipse as smooth as possible.
JaCoCo library will stay independent from Eclipse.org as it is and in its current place. Except that its site ( http://www.jacoco.org/ ) will be clearly separated from EclEmma site ( http://www.eclemma.com/ ) - something about what we thought for a long time.
And we will continue contributing to EclEmma and JaCoCo.

How do I contribute to this?

First of all - don't worry and be sure about bright future for both EclEmma and JaCoCo.

Big thanks to all contributors for their bug reports, ideas, questions, patches, we'd be glad to see you in new home of EclEmma at Eclipse.

And we would love to hear your thoughts about this move, whether they are good or bad - drop us an email in this thread. Spread the word, tweet about this - https://twitter.com/_godin_/status/758706489624236032

BTW don't miss "Code Coverage in Practice" at EclipseCon in October ( https://www.eclipsecon.org/europe2016/session/code-coverage-practice ) and feel free to catch me and Marc for questions and beer.

If you would like be an early adopter and test the migration - stay tuned for further updates. You can also subscribe to the meta ticket to track process of migration - https://github.com/jacoco/eclemma/issues/127

In conclusion I would like to thank Marc for his outstanding work on EclEmma and JaCoCo all those years! And thank our mentors in Eclipse.org - Mickael Istria and Lars Vogel for their help with first baby steps and initialization of this move! Let's see how this will be going further.

Thank you, have fun and enjoy!
