LSAP for Islandora Simple Map

Hello Islandora community,

Mark Jordan and Jared Whiklo propose that Islandora Simple Map become a module in Islandora Labs, with its Github repo owned by the Islandora Foundation, subject to the same release management and documentation processes as other Islandora modules.

This module generates a Google map for individual objects that have geocordinate data or place names in their MODS metadata (but not limited to MODS), and will also generate a Google map for collections based on geocordinate data in the collection members (example below). Site admins may choose between two different Google Maps APIs, only one of which requires an API key. The module is in production use at University of Manitoba, BCELN's Arca repository, Simon Fraser University, and York University, among others.

The module is available under the GPLv3 license.
