Hi folks-

Code freeze is complete, and we now have a release candidate for you.

Big *thank you* all who helped out this today!

You can check out our *Known Issues* for the release here[1]. Our
priority over the next few weeks will be to resolve those, along with
any issues that are discovered in the release candidate. We are still on
track to have a final version of 7.x-1.3 out by April 24, 2014.

The release candidate versions of the modules are available below. We
hope to have a release candidate VM out by the end of the week.

If there are any issues with RC1 or the links below, please report them
in this thread, and we can get JIRA tickets created for anything we need to.

thanks!

This is awesome! I'm working now to build up a standardized release testing VM from this, for our testers. Will post for download when it's ready.

Congrats Nick, this is a great milestone.

To add to the news, I've updated the Islandora Chef/Vagrant recipes to address a number of issues:

- added a bunch of backend components that were missing (mostly Solr/GSearch config)
- re-enabled Djatoka and JVM tweaks to support that
- Islandora git checkout is now pinned to a version; default is 7.x-1.3-RC1
- mirrored 3rd-party JAR files on github
- updated Vagrant box to Ubuntu daily cloud image (to speed installation updates)
- added/tested modules included in 7.x-1.3 (not quite all of them yet; see https://github.com/ryersonlibrary/islandora/blob/master/attributes/default.rb#L105-L110)

This is *almost* enough to automatically build a complete Islandora 7.x-1.3 VM; the remaining modules above can be installed by hand for the time being.  When I have some time I'll finish it, although if someone else wants to dig into the Chef recipes, I won't complain. :-)

Hi folks-

Good news!

Thanks to the wonderful efforts of MJ Suhonos, we have a 7.x-1.3-RC1
virtual machine ready for testing.

You can grab a copy of the vm here[1].

A couple of notes about the vm:

SSH: vagrant/vagrant
Drupal: admin/islandora

Once the machine it up and running, you can visit it at
http://localhost:8181 in your local browser.

Virtualbox keeps the port forwarding settings. So :8080 for tomcat,
:3306 for mysql, :8181 for apache (since 80 is restricted).

cheers!

Yep dandy and thanks for the VM. Am likewise starting it up.

The search block on the VM ... wondering if we should swap the Drupal search block for the Islandora simple search block or provide a note on the front page that guides users through to process of adding the Islandora search block. Not a new issue to this VM.

Thanks again.

I've got Virtual Box 4.3.8 running and imported the ova for 7.x-13-test image. I also downloaded it and installed Vagrant as instructed.

When running the VM with the islandora_7x-13--test, I'm left sitting at the following prompt:

vagrant@islandora-berkshelf:~s

I don't know what to do from there.

Can someone help me with the next step(s).

Thanks,
Peter MacDonald

Peter,

Go to http://localhost:8181 in your host computer's browser and you should see the Drupal running on the VM.

Hi all,

Bug found in Islandora Checksum: 500 error in batch

User action: Applying retroactive checksums

Occurs when: 1) there are 0 objects in a collection or 2) the user hasn't enabled checksums.

Fix: Add $operations = array(); to line 105 of islandora_checksum.module

Tested: Drupal doesn't error out in either 1 or 2 above, it just applies batch to 0 objects and reports this to user.

I can open a PR that applies the fix.

Hello:

bug found. Discovered when adjusting collection policies on collections, but might stretch elsewhere. BagIt batch gets invoked when the user selects Update collection policy. I've attached a screen recording.

Hi Mark-

I have a created a ticket: https://jira.duraspace.org/browse/ISLANDORA-951

Looks like you're in the system, so I was able to assign it to you.

Once you have the pull requests ready -- one for 7.x and one for 7.x-1.3
-- put them in a comment, and if you can assign the ticket to me. That
will let me know that I need to merge them, then assign them to Melissa
for testing.

cheers!

Confirmed.

I'm not sure if this is a vm error or an actual bug.

I was able to successfully execute /usr/bin/convert from the Apache
user's shell:

$ sudo -u -i www-data
$ /usr/bin/convert

A couple more potential VM issues:

1. OCR not liking the version tesseract is marked as:

Executable found at /usr/bin/tesseract
Version: 3.02
Required Version: 3.02.02

2. Djatoka troubles. When I save settings on the OpenSeadragon config page, it says  that /adore-djatoka/resolver "does not seem to be a functioning Djatoka server"

And hey, as long as we're spinning up a new one, could we get the upload limit in php.ini cranked way up? I think we have it set to 2048 mb on the last release VM. Hard to get large images and books ingested through the GUI with 2 MB :)

Also, I've received some "Out of memory" errors on the console (and Tomcat dies) when preforming batch jobs. I notice that the VM has been allocated 1 gig of RAM - maybe try 2?

Sorry, it has 2048 megs of RAM. When I issued a 'free -g' it reported only 1 gig, but 'free -m' shows 2003 megs. I've allocated 3 gigs in VirtualBox's settings (and confirmed with free -m) and will try that.

I don't think it is the VM.
Further troubleshooting ... the TN gets created and is in the /tmp directory.
The large image sp generates and stores the TN, which means to me that it is an issue in the basic sp code.

They use different methods (i think?) to generate and push in the TN.

It'd be useful to compare the two methods - basic image sp [1] and large image sp [2]

VM Config - Audio SP

I'm not sure if this reporting is useful, so tell me if the expectation is for the user to do some documented basic configuration steps.  That might be a good idea?

No default viewer is associated with the Audio SP so the default thumbnail displays after ingest, but no way to pay it. Enabling the JWPlayer for the SP works.

Let me try and get MJ in thread to see what he can and cannot take care of.

Another alternative could be, I could share out the VM in a Dropbox
folder, and all folks to fix it up there if they have the time to devote
to it.

Let me know what y'all prefer.

Hi folks-

I realized my message this morning about the VM only hit the dev list.
So, I'll refactor it here to both lists.

I have plenty of space in my Dropbox account, and I am currently hosting
it the RC1 VM from it.

It looks like we have quite a few issues with it, and I know everybody's
time is limited right now. But, if anybody would like to take a crack at
fixing the setup/configuration issues we have identified with it so far
(fits, kakadu, etc), I'd be more than happy to just share out the VM in
a Dropbox folder. Then the configuration changes could be applied, and
the VM exported: File > Export Appliance.

When ingesting a video file, the MP4 derivative is not created.

Hi everyone,

UofT just started working with the 7.x-1.3-RC1 last week - we are loving this version so far :)

The two primary issues that we have encountered have already been reported by Donald:
- evoking BagIt when updating collection policies (we've disabled BagIt for now as a solution...)
- Solr not indexing MODS elements (one of our programmers is looking at customizing gsearch and solr for MODS, I'll pass along a solution if we come up with anything)

I'm also encountering the following error message when creating a Newspaper Collection:

Notice: Undefined index: issue in islandora_newspaper_islandora_newspaperpagecmodel_islandora_ingest_steps() (line 321 of/var/www/dcollections/sites/all/modules/islandora/islandora_solution_pack_newspaper/islandora_newspaper.module).

Not sure if the Newspaper Collection error has to do with this RC or something in our configuration?

Hi all,

Just to ensure everyone knows, I'm now going to be tracking VM build issues against this one that Nick was kind enough to file:

I don't have a Jira account, but will be trying to work through them as we move through the RC process.  Please feel free to add others as you encounter them, but please also try to limit to those which you are confident are NOT 1.3 related (eg. in the case of the newspaper solution pack above).  VM-only stuff, please.

Thanks,

Hi Kelli,
I went through ingesting a newspaper by adding a new Newspaper object, then added an Issue object and then I was able to add a page to the Issue.  I did this on the VM provided by MJ.  I didn't notice any errors or notices (I'll check the error level settings on the VM to make sure it is set to show notices).

At what stage do you see this message?  I'm wondering if you are missing the issue object?  A newspaper is basically a collection of Issues and you add pages to the issue not the newspaper itself.

Thanks for taking the time to test this.

Paul

Hello:

just a follow up on this issue with the TN derivative creation in basic image sp with the RC VM.

The issue is with configuration. In the image toolkit configuration (admin/config/media/image-toolkit) the Enable GraphicsMagick support has been checked, but the binary it points to is /usr/bin/convert.

The user can either disable the GraphicsMagick support or change the binary to /usr/bin/gm
That resolves the issue for me.

Hi Kelli,

I'm pretty sure that this error is caused by having one or both of the newspaperPage and newspaperIssue Content Models enabled at the collection level.  If you uncheck them, it should go away.

I hope this helps.

Thanks Brian! Yes, your instructions resolved the newspaper problem I was having.

Related to instructions/documentation: I remember seeing a discussion post about community collaboration to create more Islandora documentation. I've been doing my best to document the UofT team's recent development of an Islandora multi-site repository, along with instructions on how to use the system for our content collaborators. Just wanted to mention this because I would be happy to contribute/collaborate on any community documentation initiative that comes up in the future.

Hi everyone,

As promised, I've gone through and tried to address all of the issues related to the VM in that JIRA ticket:

Please note that the Islandora modules in this build have been updated to 1.3 master, so they are post-RC1 but pre-RC2.  This may address some late-breaking issues people have reported.  Once RC2 is released, I'll update the VM accordingly.

the same?

Lots of fixes ... thank you.

Here are some initial testing reports.

Bagit is triggered on batch ingest of objects.
When batch ingesting a zip of images and metadata in the basic image collection, the creation of Bags is triggered.
  • Bag created and saved at /tmp/Bag-islandora_10.tgz
  • Files added:
  • Derivatives successfully created.
  • Bag created and saved at /tmp/Bag-islandora_11.tgz
  • Files added:
  • Bag created and saved at /tmp/Bag-islandora_8.tgz
  • Files added:
  • Bag created and saved at /tmp/Bag-islandora_9.tgz
  • Files added:
  • Processing complete; review the queue for some additional information.
Neither Create bag on object ingest is checked nor is Create Bag on object modification in the Islandora Bagit config.

It appears that indexing is still an issue? The DC or MODS datastreams are getting indexed.  Not sure if fedoragsearch is running. When I go to  http://localhost:8080/fedoragsearch/rest nothing appears.

For my testing I edited /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini and changed the post_max_size to 200M.

post_max_size = 200M

Then I restarted apache ( apache2 restart )

There still seems to be an issue with djatoka feeding openseadragon.
Two modules that have the path for configuring djatoka - the Paged and OpenSeaDragon.  I think the Djatoka server base URL should be http://localhost:8080/adore-djatoka , but it doesn't have an effect.

Config ... still the same issues with imagemagick and generating derivatives. Imagemagick is installed ... it is having GraphicsMagick enable with the pointer to convert instead of gm that causes the issue i think.

Thanks for catching these Don!

I've updated post_max_size, and took care of the
imagemagick/graphicsmagick issue.

As for the OpenSeadragon issue, I that was a couple of things.
Virtualbox won't let you forward anything under 1024, and proxying
wasn't setup for it in the Apache site config. So, I setup the Apache
site config, and also had to change the default Apache listen ports to
8181 (/etc/apache/ports.conf) as well as set the listen port in the site
config (/etc/apache2/sites-available/drupal.conf) to 8181.

I was able to successfully ingest a book, audio file, basic image, large
image, warc, and video.

I caught a few other items:

* warctools - wasn't installed
* ffmpeg - wrong version installed - compiled 1.1.1 from source + stow
* internet archive bookreader - folder needed to be rename to bookreader
* env.sh was not edited as called for in documentation
* apache reverse proxy for djatoka

I'm going to export this, and start uploading it now. Hopefully it will
be ready by the morning, and I'll share a new link with everybody, and
maybe by the time we release we'll have a working VM :-P

I pulled it. I'll upload the new one and bring a link as soon as I get into the office. Probably about an hour or so.

Nick this may be a known issue, but just in case.

I created another role (eg. site admin) and gave it all the permissions that the administrator role has.  I created a user and assigned it the site admin role and I log in as that user.  When attempting to purge objects (Manage > Properties > Permanently Remove object from Repository) all appears to work as normal, but the object is not purged. Drupal's watchdog log reports this:

Failed to purge object islandora:29
code: 401
message: Unauthorized

We believe the behavior is associated with this global policy in the RC VM - /usr/share/fedora/data/fedora-xacml-policies/repository-policies/default/deny-purge-datastream-if-active-or-inactive.xml

I see another thread about the XACML policies ... XACML documentation/issues ... couldn't seem to find it before.

Did I forget to remove deny-purge-datastream-if-active-or-inactive.xml
from the VM? *cringes*
