This post is part of a new recruitment drive to support the expansion in clinical and public health trials at LSTM. You will have the opportunity to work in partnership with highly motivated researchers from a diverse range of disciplines and make a major contribution in the field. The Unit works on diseases that cause a high burden in low and middle income countries, which include HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, Neglected and Emerging Tropical Diseases and acute lower respiratory infections. We support phase II/III clinical trials of new diagnostics, drug treatments and vaccines and large scale global health trials evaluating strategies of health care delivery.
As you will play a major role in writing up the research findings for publications and encouraged to undertake statistical methodological research, it is essential that you have a track record of published research in the field, including journals of international reputation. As our trials portfolio is both large and diverse, the post holder will have flexibility in choosing the areas that are of interest to the candidate. The portfolio will include a wide range of public health trials evaluating novel health care or disease control strategies. The successful candidate must possess a postgraduate degree in medical statistics or biostatistics and ideally a PhD in a relevant area.
You will be required to contribute to the design, implementation and conduct of clinical trials and epidemiological studies in low-resource settings and may be called upon to provide general statistical advice to LSTM researchers and postgraduates. It will therefore be critical that you have effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships in a multicultural environment with confidence, tact and diplomacy.
You will be resourceful, dynamic and able to work on own initiative, this will be an excellent opportunity to work in a supportive and stimulating environment. We require a flexible approach as the post will involve short overseas visits, particularly to Africa to visit LSTM research collaborators.
