grass Oplismenus from Hooghly 14/10/12 sk1

Sir,

The most interesting feature of this grass is that i could not find its starting point! It is trailing grass, rooting at nodes and often gets cut in midway, growing in a shady & moist private land with a few banana and other wild plants.

I am sorry that my camera doesn't behave properly in low light.

Species : Oplismenus undulatifolius (Ard.) Roem. & Schult. ?

Habit & Habitat : trailing grass in  a shady place; leaves wavy, avg. 9.5 cm x 1.8 cm; raceme terminal

Date : 14/10/12, 10.10 a.m.

Place : Nalikul (Hooghly)

A reply:

"This is Oplismenus compositus.

O.undulatifolius has only a few spikelets on very short branches and is usually a grass found in high altitudes. Moreover, O.u is considered as just a variant of O.c.

The picture posted is definitely O.compositus." from Manoj Chandran ji.
