Hi community,

Since december 2013 we opened a sponsorship account on paypal

Since then we are consistently receiving a monthly amount for sponsorship from Chuck Boecking.

This community post has two purposes:

1 - Invite others to join this initiative and start sending money to the sponsorship account.

Good time to recall the three Redhuan mantras:
Information Is Free ... U HAVE 2 KNOW
People Are Not ... U HAVE 2 PAY
Contributors Are Priceless ... U HAVE 2 BE

Anybody can be on the list, become a priceless contributor.  For example you can consider this suggestions:
  • If you are new to iDempiere, and you would like to see iDempiere easier to learn, please offer a one-time sponsorship of $50. Your efforts go to support better documentation and usability.
  • If you are a company evaluating iDempiere for your business, please consider a monthly sponsorship of $25. Your sponsorship helps ensure quality resources are available to tend to the iDempiere google group.
  • If you are a company using iDempiere in production, please consider a monthly sponsorship of $50. Your support helps ensure your iDempiere installation remains relevant for your company's growth and potential. This means more features, 3rd party plugins and better scalability.
  • If you are a consultant making a living by supporting iDempiere customers, please consider a monthly sponsorship of $100 per month. Your investment helps ensure you will enjoy a lifetime of new customers, features and opportunities.
  • If you believe that everyone should have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of ERP (not just multi-million dollar enterprises), please make a sponsorship of any size. Doing so helps amplify your beliefs around the world.
Please contact Thomas Bayen for details or just feel free to ask here, things are open and transparent here.
And please mention if you want your name to be listed at the sponsors page:

2 - gathering ideas about how to invest the sponsored money

We also want to collect your ideas about how to invest better the sponsorship money.

Please post your suggestions as answer to this post, any suggestion is welcome.
Also if you have an idea about the required budget for your proposal, please post it too.

Regards,

Carlos Ruiz

How to contribute?.  I live in Bolivia. Do not make a lot of money (more research) and for security do not have International Credit Card. Are there other means?

Hi Carlos,

You can contribute by paypal or by international bank transfer (please
contact me by private mail for the bank account data). I do not (yet)
accept credit cards (but a credit card allows to open a paypal account).

If you have no other transfer possibility you can also send Euro or US-$
as a bank note or an international Cheque in one of these currencies in
an paper envelope, but I see this as a last resort (please contact me
prior by private mail).

Regards,

Thomas

Respected Carlos,

I too want to sponsor iDempiere. In the start my contribution may low because my earnings are low too. As soon as I get money from my current project I will send amount for sponsorship. You people are working really hard to make iDempiere better as well as free for us and always respond quickly to help us in problems. So I believe every one from community should sponsor. Thank you for your efforts and continuous help. God Bless you forever

Hi Carlos,
There was informal talk during the conference to have a lean foundation that will just raise funds for sponsorship and also organize conferences and training. That's something non-technical with no direct political influence on the project. I think something formal like that will help those of us who use the vanilla version and want our company to donate to the project without going through a consultant. The thing is that with a big company, you want to be able to do a yearly contract with an entity because of the approval processes and all. I hope this option is still on the table. It will be helpful

Carlos,

As categorize sponsorship category, we can create team for each category and have planned works in each area. As per we are getting sponsorship, we know interest of people is focused in which area and can make progress there.
We can get feedback of priority from our regular sponsors.

Hello community, it was very motivating to see 10 sponsors during march-april.

We received sponsorship from USA, Perú, Ecuador, Slovakia, Japan, Bolivia and South Africa.

Some of the sponsors announced to keep contributing periodically, and it will be really helpful for the project growing if we achieve it.

I'm going to edit tomorrow the sponsors page:

In principle I'm going to add just the names to the list, so, please, if somebody wants the amount published, or if somebody doesn't want to be named, you have until tomorrow to notify me (you can do it privately if you prefer).

Hey!  Another way to contribute to this initiative is networking, post a link to this forum thread on your social networks (facebook, g+, linkedin ...) and also you can ask your friends to share the link.

Regards,

Carlos Ruiz

Hi Anthony, I like the idea, it will be great if some of the community members take the lead to pull this.
I would like to keep my focus and attention on the technical stuff.

Hi community, sorry I forgot to mention China on the countries list, but I already fixed that mistake on the sponsors page:

I tried to do my best to find the proper links to sponsors, but failed on some, so please if you want me to add a link to your name - or change the way it was written, just drop me a message (you can contact me also on IRC).

Thanks again to sponsors!  Remember: CONTRIBUTORS ARE PRICELESS, YOU HAVE TO BE.

Dear Carlos,

we want to give a monthly amount for sponsorship.
I alread spoke to Thomas Bayen on this concern.

How about creating a "WISHLIST" of future functions and every Sponsor can add a higher amount if he is interested.
The needed and alread collected amount for implementation could be shown so it will be a motivation for everyone to take part ...

Kind regards from germany.

Hi Andreas,

FWIW this is the wishlist collected on Krefeld 2013 conference:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1518cPhOTz5SwBz6lhHPJCGnrw2f3SwQzQQ4t_vCQNRE/pub
A few of those are already developed and published, but most of them are just in the status of potential idea.

We also created a label in jira to track some tickets that we closed but had potential ideas to develop:
https://idempiere.atlassian.net/issues/?jql=labels%20%3D%20Potential-Idea

Needed money for each feature: would require a "bidding" process - hope somebody could take charge and set it up.

Already collected amount: I recommend to discuss with Thomas pros/cons to publish that.

Carlos Ruiz

Hi Guys

I am new to Idempiere. I was introduced to Idempiere through my brother who used to Idempiere implementations. So far I am impress about the application. However I am not that impressed about the documentation, structure of things etc.

I come from a software development background and do a lot of management consulting work. Idempiere is something I do on my off time to try and help a friend to build a good ERP system.  Here are some inputs from me.

1. I know its important to stay a community not a company. However I believe you guys are badly in need for a good corparate organisation. How about considering something like wikimedia foundation. It would make it easy for many corporate entities to contribute.

2. Develop a governance structure for Adempiere community. example: A documentation lead, application architecture working group etc

3. Consolidate the knowledge: As a newcomer the biggest obstacle I have is not being able to find information easily. Be it how to install the system on Ubantu or how to customise a screen Or recommended  business process. If I was doing this for a customer, I would have  There is lots of information spread across the web. My suggestion is to bring in a mechanism to consolidate. Most of documentation is still in Adempiere. I have no idea what is relevant to Idempiere from those documents. There is lots of knowladge in place like Chucks blog. We will have to find ways to bring them up without proper approvals and structure. IF this was a client assignment I would have recommended something like MS Dynamics. Thankfully this is something I do for fun and  I have the luxury of spending my own time on research.

4. Create a certification regime: This would help to certify the people on skills (ex: certified IDempiere trainer, Certified IDempiere Implimentor etc.) and build a revenue stream on such. That would help create In my opinion such certification process would help bring in the status of Idempiere professionals around the world and help customers to select suitable system implementers.

5. Finally I think IDempiere community should plan on building sufficient financial resource to be able promote it self.

I have developed many business plans and currently helping some of my clients to develop application strategies/product manangment strategies etc. If you guys want my help in developing some of these ideas I can be available.

Finally, please know that I am a newbie to this community. So I don't know how valid the above ideas are. I maybe talking completly out of my turn. if so please excuse me

Cheers

Hi K.C,

I've quite a while in this community so I can share some thoughts. The way of doing things here is simple: Just Do It  :)
If you think there's anything that can be improved and you are willing to work on it then Just Do It :)
It is operating as a bazaar. All the leaders are leaders based on their works, not by election.
So you can also be a leader. Just.. Do it :)

Edwin Ang

Hi community, I didn't update the sponsors page since june, and the good news is that two new sponsors have been added to the list, one from Brazil and one from France.

Also the order of sponsors changed a little as I usually order by the amount of donations received, there are some monthly sponsors, and some sporadic, but every contribution is well received.

Thank you very much for those who support the project in this way - and again thanks a lot to Chuck for being top sponsor and starter of this initiative.

Please see updated list at

in case it's bug fix, new feature, improve. you explain on jira and make your change as patch, upload to that ticket
when your feature is accepted to core, it's good to write a wiki explain how to use it

in case your change can separate to plugin, you can set your repository as public and make a wiki about your plugin

Hi Community,

As a sponsor, would you get a voice/vote etc on what new features or development should be concentrated on?

I'm happy to assist either way. Have been using Idempiere in production since 1st January 2018 and it is now the backbone and nerve centre of my business .

no. to integrate your code for fix bug/feature, you need pass thru inspect gate from Carlos

reason to manage quality of code.
