Hi Everyone,

I've been pretty content staying at 5.1 for a while now. Today I decided to explore 6.2.
As usual, I am following guideline from: http://wiki.idempiere.org/en/Install_Development_Prerequisites

Note that my machine is running Windows 10.
I've properly installed Oracle JDK 11 and set the JAVA_HOME.
Maven checked.

But I have a tough time with Eclipse. First I tried to follow using ver 2018-09. But I cannot find the Java 11 Support plugin. I tried to install update for Eclipse but always failed.
So, I tried the newer version 2018-12. Since Java 11 is already supported, I can bypass the support plugin step. But then I'm stucked at Maven Tycho Utilities.
I cannot install directly from the marketplace. I can open the web page from Eclipse browser but nothing happen when I click the install button.

Is there anybody who has successfully set up development environment in Windows 10? Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

Edwin

Hi Edwin, I added a note in that wiki page, thought initially this was
going to be temporary problem with eclipse, but it seems it will take
time to fix that.

Hi Hiep,

Thanks for the suggestion. But I got this error when trying to install from your link:

Probably network issue. I'll retry tomorrow morning and share my findings.

Hi Hiep,

I re-tried your suggestion but no good.

Is there any other solution that I might try? Probably using the newer Eclipse version? In 2018_12, Java 11 is already supported. But I'm having issue with installation of Maven Tycho Utilities. Since there are already two newer releases, it is probably more helpful if we can find a solution to install Maven Tycho Utilities on newer version of Eclipse.

Thanks and regards,

Edwin Ang

As the note I added in the wiki, it can be installed from https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.9-P-builds/P20181010-0815
it needs to full URL

Up until now, I am still unable to install from https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.9-P-builds
I follow up the thread shared by Hiep. The other guy managed to access the link already but not with me.
Any ideas or workaround?
This issue basically stops everyone from setting up a new development environment.

Hi Carlos,

Sorry I missed that part. Too focused on the link :)
Btw, I can install it. But the weird thing is after i finished, I got a message saying those plugins are already installed.
Samething happen with m2e connector installation step.
I am on the mvn verify step.
I'll just proceed until the end. Eventually if I can run it on Eclipse then it should means everything is fine :)
I'll update again later

Thanks a lot Carlos and Hiep!

Hi All,

The good news is I've already completed until the final step here http://wiki.idempiere.org/en/Setting_up_Eclipse#Set_target_platform
The bad news is I still got five thousands of errors. I've ensure that the default JRE is JRE 11.
Been doing clean build a couple of times, restart of eclipse and even Windows.
No good.
Any ideas?

I have successfully run the targetplatform install and there's no error in my locations.
However when I checked the errors, I found a lot of error in Import Package and Required Bundle in MANIFEST.MF of org.adempiere.base project.
Before version 6, I usually solve this kind of issue by deleting everything added during buckminster materialize and then re-run the materialize.
Wonder if this is something that I should do also now?
Another thing is: one of the location points to http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.10
Is it correct? As the eclipse version used is 4.9.

Hello Edwin,

You can try to delete the .m2 directory (here for me C:\Users\Nico\.m2) - Eclipse needs to be closed.
Another trick is to select package with errors (one by one) and ALT + F5 to update Maven project.
Clicking on the 'Reload Target Platform' link from org.idempiere.p2.targetplatform.target can help

Don't ask me why, but sometimes, I got something like 5000 errors and doing this make them gone.

nb: I think having 2 different versions of iDempiere (6.1 and 6.2) that share the same .m2 directory can cause issues (that's why i experienced in the beginning of the year). Now that all my versions are 6.2, I do not have those errors.

it's ok, by limit we can't use latest version of eclipse. but still can use latest bundle on idempiere

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the tips. It removes almost all the errors but these last three.

I've re-tried many times but unable to fix these three. I've done the ALT+F5 on each pom.xml. I've delete everything in .m2 and redownload everything.
But these three always prevails.
Any other tips?

And note that http://137.254.56.27/maven2/org/seleniumhq/selenium/selenium-server-standalone/2.39.0/selenium-server-standalone-2.39.0.pom is not available ATM.
If you try to do a mvn verify -U, it will fails.
So perhaps your errors are links to this issue ?

Hi All,

Finally have some time to do it in a new computer with only Java 11 installed.
During my last testing, I was using my daily computer which already have Java 8 installed, since we are still using 5.1 for most of work.
Even though I've already set JAVA_HOME to the new Java 11 but I with the amount of errors I've still got at the last time, I suspected it must be related with having both Java 8 and 11 in my computer.
So, starting from yesterday, I worked on a new computer and installed just Java 11.
Everything went smooth and now I don't have a single error at all!
I managed to run idempiere 6.2 from Eclipse 2018 09.
Thanks everyone for the help. Really appreciate it

Regards,

Edwin Ang

P.S: There is an update on iDempiere wiki. Apparently the default branch is already using newest Eclipse version 2019 03.
Kudos to the team for making it happen.

you can download jdk on zip and extract it to folder

edit eclipse.ini, add
"-vm

Hi Carlos & team

I have tried to build idempiere 6.2 within eclipse following the existent instructions twice (ubuntu linux, debian linux & windows 10 as well) but we are getting the same build errors at the end.

First using the manual build with maven (command line with mvn build and those were successful)  however inside eclipse there are issues just at the end,

After the target platform is imported and defined as default   (the source code looks good without any errors)...   then when I tried to  enable back the "Build automatically" (project menu)   many of the eclipse projects/plugins reported a lot  errors ....... (same behavior in Ubuntu linux, and windows 10) both using OpenJDK 11, idempiere source code (release-6.2 branch) and the precise versions of eclipse, mercurial and tycho plugins indicated in the wiki.

If we disabled the "Build automatically"  and refresh manually those projects (ALT-F5) with maven .. they are fixed as indicated in other threads ( I already checked other threads); but once we tried to enable the "Build automatically"   error arise again .. any suggestions/tricks to fix them ?

Regards

Pedro Rozo.

first, make sure the target platform selected is correct and properly loaded.

second, try maven > update project

Thanks Hensing.. I double checked your suggestions, but I as mentioned on my last email :

1. I deactivate the: "Build automatically"   ...
2. Idempiere Target platform is active (i also tried , clicking  in the option called:  reload target platform, just in case)
    compilation worked flawlessly.
3. If I  try maven > update project    - that worked as well for the source code ..
4. but as soon as I activate the  "Build automatically"  again.... all the errors come back (see enclosed image) ...which is blocking because that is require to run the configurations (installer, server and so on) ..

The behavior is exactly the same in ubuntu, debian and windows 10 .. with smae levels of : jdk, source code, eclipse and so on ...

Any other suggestion, perhaps ?

Hi Deepak,

if I performed the maven build (ALT-F5) and it works flawlessly (with build automatically disabled).. however when I build the workspace: #1  with eclipse manual approach (project / Build all) #2   or just activate the option called:   "Build automatically", the errors for these five projects/plugins (enclosed detail) come back . And that is a pre-requisite to run the server configuration and so on, as you know.

As indicated by Hensin , I enclosed a detail screen capture of the five projects with their own errors/problems. .... I have  also tested changing the mercurial branch from : release-6.2 to default (just in case), clean and rebuild but the errors are the same in the three platforms: windows 10, ubuntu and debian .

Having in mind that I am following the precise steps& sequence indicated in the wiki, and it looks like something is wrong with eclipse build but not with the maven build.,   I am wondering if there are some missing steps  or workaround in wiki, perhaps in the source code import with eclipse/maven   that perhaps are not in the correct order ...that could potentially cause that eclipse is not using the correct dependencies ?  just wondering ... thanks in advances for your comments ..

those error is cause by wrong jdk version, make sure you are using jdk11 and have install the jdk11 support (if you are using eclipse 2018-09)

HI Pedro / Everyone

Iv had numerous trials with this.. i found it to be much tougher than the previous setup.. still not done but happy to share some progress

in the "branch default (a.k.a. 6.2z)" branch with Eclipse "4.12.0 2019-06" I managed to get over most of the error by using jdk11.02 strictly (tried 11.01 and 11.04) and also I found that the target platform is pointing to http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.10 so I changed it to http://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/updates/4.12 and changed the library versions..

please try the attached modified file, if your using eclipse 4.12, I added a JIRA ticket for this https://idempiere.atlassian.net/browse/IDEMPIERE-4025
hope for some review if its correct

faced some other error with SFL.. server-product is running but no access to 0.0.0.0:8080/webui so my problems are still not cleared so please help

For eclipse version, it is Eclipse 2018-09 for 6.2 and Eclipse 2019-03+ for default.

For https://idempiere.atlassian.net/browse/IDEMPIERE-4025, I took a quick glance and it doesn't looks correct to me. I don't want to say for sure here though since I've not check in detail.

Hi Hensin

Here I share the results of my intensive testing.

6.2 branch  with eclipse 2018-09 and target platform idempiere-190304 (eclipse 4.10)  on

1. Ubuntu 18.04  + OpenJDK 11.0.2 & 11.0.4  it works
2. Windows 10 & linux debian 10  (all JDK 11.0.xx)  it's broken  with multiple dependencies not resolved. It works with maven (command line or ALT-F5 but not with the eclipse build)

3. Proposal of fix for windows 10, (https://idempiere.atlassian.net/browse/IDEMPIERE-4025 )  it did not work at 100%, it fixed some project issues but not all.

To avoid JDK issues with Windows 10 & debian 10 environments, I  just had a unique OpenJDK during my tests

Could you confirm if perhaps it is a good moment to switch to the newer eclipse 2019... plus new target platform  for windows 10/debian , or  is it something planned for next big release on October ?

Regards

Pedro R

As I've already mentioned in my previous post, you can't use Eclipse 2019-xx with branch 6.2 but you can use it for the default branch which is the source for the next release version.

Also, I'm not sure why the setup is not working for you. As I've say in my previous reply to your message, the errors captured in your attached image are all cause by wrong jdk version and got nothing to do with the target platform.

I read your previous messages Hensin ... but as I also wrote, I tested with unique JDK's (11.0.x) in both windows 10 and also in debian linux 10 . with the same results .. so it looks like something else might be missing ...the testing process was exactly the same thatn Ubuntu tests (same branch, eclipse, open jdk's and so on).. Your suggestions are welcome ...

Pedro R.

Hi Pedro,

Make sure your compliance level is 11 in your Eclipse preferences.

HI Pedro

can you share the "unique OpenJDK" that worked for you on Debian 10 ? would love to try that before having to format and re-install ubuntu 18.04

Habib

As indicated on my last messages the current Open JDK 11.0.2 was the version used during my tests, but it did not work (smilar errors) than windows 10...

Yes Ricardo. Your suggestions about the compiler are my defaults  (but i got the same errors in Windows 10)

However trying to find alternatives I spent some additional time testing and found that forcing the plugins reload (window/preference/plug in development/target platform) .. it fixed the problem temporary but it show a platform warning (see the enclosed document) and if I close 7 open eclipse the errors come back ...

I included the details of my eclipse environment, though I followed the wiki instructions (i am using Eclipse Java EE IDE for Web Developers. Version: 2018-09 (4.9.0) Build id: 20180917-1800 , it looks that something between this eclipse version and the target platform requirements is nor working properly in windows ..

Any other suggestions .... perhaps you guys are using a different eclipse environment with windows 10 ?

have you install the jdk11 support for Eclipse 2018-09 ?

It s hard to help when I can't reproduce your issue.

Yes  HenSin JDK11, support for eclipse was installed since the beginning of my test as the image shows ...

jdk11-support.PNG

As additional news, having discarded issues with my jdk and the step/by/step process itself from the wiki, I  repeat everything twice again Yesterday this focusing all my attention in the target platform options , so additional to the normal wiki option to import the idempiere target plugin, and make it active,  as I mentioned before the key topic in windows is to repeat 3-4 attempts to reload the target platform  from : Preferences/Plug-in development/target platform ... push the reload  button  .. and confirm after the warning .... same process at least two times ...

Still with the warnings about wrong eclipse platform, after those attempts.. it looks like the workspace stays stable (no errors) an the normal build/build automatically and it works as expected still closes and opening the eclipse IDE many times..

Then, having in mind that we are close to switch to a new eclipse platform and new target platforms. I won't spend more of your time on these topics guys, and I would work with this workaround for now .... thanks again to everyone for your help. it is absolutely awesome to get your global help on these matters, and great to share common experiences on such detailed topics for other people in the future.

I just want to confirm that the previous workaround for windows 10, also fixes the same libraries/eclipse target platform issues within the debian linux environments (tested on debian 10) .

thanks everyone.. I also confirm that I had a successful run eclipse 201809 for release 6.2 after i installed ubuntu 18.04 (not sure if Debian would have worked)

now looking to have default branch on 201906 and did the following to update the code:
hg update default
hg pull -u

before running eclipse i delete the .project and .metadata folder and ran the rest of the instructions but now target platform is showing this error
Error reading manifest for ..../idempiere_hgrepo_6_2a/.metadata/.plugins/org.eclipse.pde.core/.bundle_pool/plugins/org.junit.vintage.engine.source_5.3.1.v20181005-1442.jar

im guessing the project is still looking at files from release 6.2

has anyone had luck switching between version of eclipse ? whats the safest way not to overlap the plugins and configs ??

regards
Habib

you need to run "mvn clean" and then "mvn verify -U" before goes into Eclipse.
