Hello AtoM translators!

As you may recall, we moved from Transifex to Weblate for our translation platform in 2019 - you can see the original announcement in the forum here

What you may not have realized is that unfortunately, our new self-hosted Weblate instance has been plagued with problems since the move, many of which only became apparent to us much later!

The most significant of these was that we found out that only about 30% of all available AtoM strings were being pulled into Weblate for translation (our tasks were not properly fetching all the strings in plugins, it seems). This is why we have not yet created a 2.6 translation branch in Weblate, and why the 2.5.x minor releases did not include new translations.

I'm happy to report that we are currently investing significant effort into addressing this, and hope to be opening up a 2.6 translation project in the next week or two. We're also hoping to release AtoM 2.6 in early July. As of today, I am locking the current 2.5 translation project in Weblate so we can finalize this work - all translations added there will be included in the new 2.6 translation project, and the AtoM 2.6 release.

Ultimately, this means that there won't be much time for our translation community to contribute new translations for the 2.6 release. Please know that we are committed to preparing a 2.6.1 release with both bug fixes and updated translations within 1-2 months of the 2.6.0 release, so that our translators have more time to prepare and review translations.

We'll also be looking at other ways to enhance the translation platform and improve the translation experience in the future - stay tuned!

In the meantime, thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we work out these bugs. When the 2.6 translation branch is ready for contributors, I'll make another post here in the forum.

Cheers,

Hi everyone,

Following up on Dan’s message, the 2.6 translation project is now available on Weblate here: https://translations.artefactual.com/projects/atom/26/

We will be pulling translated strings for the 2.6 release on June 19th. We realize that this gives translators less than one week to contribute translations to the 2.6 release. As Dan mentioned, Artefactual is committed to doing a 2.6.1 release within a month or two of the 2.6 release. Any translations added to Weblate after June 19th will be made available in the 2.6.1 release.

Thank you for your understanding as we work out this new process with Weblate!

Regards,

Sara Allain

Hello Dan, Sara,

While translating AtoM in weblate I've stumbled across the github links not working properly...
    Example:
The link above returns a 404 error page.
I've looked for the file and found the correct link:
    Where /atom/master/ should be /atom/qa/2.6.x/

Best Regards,

Matheus Baumgarten.

Hello Matheus

Thanks for the feedback - I have locked the 2.6 repo while I investigate this issue.

Hello again Matheus

Thank you for spotting this particular issue. It looks like the strings are being extracted with the incorrect 'master' path, and have been doing so for a number of AtoM releases now.

This should not affect the translation work itself, nor affect bringing any new translations back into AtoM before the 2.6.0 release.

The workaround for this is as you describe: to view a string's source file, you will need to replace 'master' with 'qa/2.6.x' in the request URL:

e.g.:

I will be creating a ticket for this particular issue to be addressed in a future release of AtoM.

I have re-opened the AtoM 2.6 string repository for translation.

Hello
I notice from the previous post that the AtoM 2.6 translation should now be re-opened for translation, but I've just checked and it says " This translation is currently locked for updates."  Is it just temporarily closed or permanently closed?  Sorry if I've missed a message somewhere explaining this.
Thanks,
Vicky

Hi Vicky,

Yes, I apologize that the window was really short (about a week). There's a second message in this thread with more information - I'll copy the relevant part here:

We will be pulling translated strings for the 2.6 release on June 19th. We realize that this gives translators less than one week to contribute translations to the 2.6 release. As Dan mentioned, Artefactual is committed to doing a 2.6.1 release within a month or two of the 2.6 release. Any translations added to Weblate after June 19th will be made available in the 2.6.1 release.
Thank you for your understanding as we work out this new process with Weblate!

We are doing the final testing and packaging of the 2.6 release now, but we intend to open the 2.6 translation project again very soon, to give translators more time to work on new strings. After a month or two, we'll package a new 2.6.1 release with all the updated translations and any key bug fixes.

Now that we've addressed the major blockers that were affecting our translation platform, we'll be working behind the scenes to refine and improve the workflow for our contributors, and translations will be open more regularly for ongoing contributions in the very near future! Thank you for your patience and understanding as we've worked out these kinks.
