Hi Everyone,

We are a small archive in the north of England that is aiming to use AtoM for accessioning and cataloguing.

We think ‘csv import’ will be the best way to get our data into AtoM as we can get our cataloguers to enter the data into Excel spreadsheets that can be checked prior to import.

We have been unable to get AtoM working on our server (someone else is working on this) so I have been testing the import facility in ‘localhost’ mode on a Windows 7 laptop using the Excel ISAD(G) csv template.

I was having trouble with a Fonds of the following structure: Fonds, SubFonds, Series, Item x13, Series, Item x21, Series, Item x15. I would get the 500 Internal server error and the find that the Fonds, Subfonds, all three Series records and the first 12 Item records had imported correctly, but the last Item in the first Series was missing as were all the Items in the second and third Series.

I then created a test pack with just the following fields: identifier, title, levelOfDescription, id and parent, and the following records: Fonds, Subfonds, Series, Item x5, Series, Item x1, which worked fine.

I then increased the number of Items in the first Series to 7. This time I got a screen that was blank, apart from the header, search box and menus, but all the records had imported correctly.

Next, I tried 8 Items in the first Series, which produced the ‘500 error’, but, again, all the records imported correctly.

Nine Items in the first Series also produced the ‘500 error’, but this time the one Item in the second Series did not import while all the other records did so correctly.

Is this a known problem? Might there be something wrong with our installation of AtoM? Or am I being completely stupid? (It wouldn't be the first time.)

Thanks

Hi Bill,

I apologize for the delay. I reviewed your initial post and could not ascertain the problem. I have forwarded your request for assistance to our developers and hopefully you will receive a response before the end of the week.

Thanks for the advice. It seems we are exceeding the script's maximum execution time. The default was set to ten seconds, which on our set-up would only import files containing ten records or less without errors. We will increase it substantially and keep the import files as small as we can to get around it. A previous post mentioned improvements coming in release 1.3, is there a date for this yet?
