Every time I load an image I get a crash.

I had installed over an older version (unknown version).

I tried
  • rebooting
  • resetting all the defaults in each tab of Preferences
  • uninstalling and re-installing
  • loading different JPGs from different cameras
  • changing the default Control Point to Autopano-SIFT-C or to
  • converting to PNG before loading - asks for focal length and then crashes on Ok press
  • toggling all the checkboxes (Align image after loading etc.) in the Preferences/Assistant tab
  • switching to Advanced and Expert mode

None of the above help.

Details from the crash dialog:

Problem signature:

Is anybody willing to help with this, please? Is there another forum to raise this issue?

Thank you

I'm not familiar with Window but I think I remember that sometimes graphic card driver issues can cause problems:
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!searchin/hugin-ptx/win$20graphic$20card$20driver

Do you load images per drag and drop or do you use the "load images" button? Does that make a difference?

Did you try to trash the prefs file?

Can you make some of your image files available so people can test on their platforms?

BTW which version of Hugin do you use? 2013.0.0?

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue. I looked for updates, but it looks like I have everything current. Here's my specs:

Hugin 2013.0.0
Lenovo Z560
Intel i3 M 380
4 Gb RAM
Windows 7 64
Intel HD integrated graphics

It's strange because Hugin never gets to the point of actually aligning the photos. As mrf said, it's immediately after clicking "Ok" on the FOV dialog. I can't even test the alignment because I can't get images into the program.

Thanks to anyone who has an idea about this!

Hmm. I know Hugin heavily uses OpenGL on Linux. I've heard that Windows
7 and later has been progressively reducing the functionality of its
stock OpenGL drivers in an effort to force people to stop using OpenGL
in favor of the proprietary and Windows-specific DirectX API. Maybe the
crash is coming from that?

Or it could be coming from whatever library Windows Hugin is using to
load each image?

Windows XP is the last version of Windows I have around here. Have you
tried setting up a virtual machine on Windows 7, installing a live Linux
distro in it, adding the Linux version of Hugin - and seeing if you have
the same problem?

FWIW, I also use Hugin on Windows 7 64 bits and an Intel HD integrated graphics. I don't have any stability issue. So I guess the driver problem may be the best explanation.

mrf, can you tell us what is your hardware configuration?

But you are right, David, Microsoft seems to be pushing OpenGL out :-(

Yup, couldn't possibly have people using anything that doesn't require
Windows. I'm glad I dumped Microsoft a long time ago.

As indicated in another thread here Hugin 2013 problem with Fast preview on Intel HD 4600 (Windows 7)  https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/hugin-ptx/EC-DShQjDus  three of us do not have problems loading images or aligning them on Win 7 64-bit but we do have problems with various parts of the fast preview. Those problems also exist with Hugin 2012.

I have an i7 4771 with 8Gb and HD4600 graphics.

... but the fast preview bug seems quite distinct from this crash.

If the crash is related to the fast preview window, start Hugin with pressed ctrl key and deactivate the fast preview window. Then some functions are not accessible. But when you can load the images now, the crash is related to the fast preview window.

Legend - holding down ctrl when starting pops up a dialog box asking if I want to disable past preview, and then Hugin works fine. Thank you!

I guess this means that the Intel HD Graphics driver issue can cause some systems to crash Hugin, while others just behave badly.

Note to self: Check this when my new laptop arrives. I'm getting a
similarly-equipped laptop but it is coming with 64-bit Ubuntu Linux on
it, not Windows.

The ctrl key pressed works for me, after trying 32 and 64bit versions on Win7-x64. Also I have an Intel HD graphics card on the notebook (Intel core 2 duo SU7300 on Dell Inspiron). In advance interface I don't have crashes!
