Thank you for letting me into your group, I'll lurk a bit to make sure
that I get to know what you want to talk about but I've already looked
through the previous postings, so I hope that I can provide some
useful input without treading on anyones toes.

A bit about me to help explain where I'm coming from in wanting to
join in.

You'll find my photographs of Ghostsigns on the BBC Making History
facebook page under the name of Morseman (although my partner, Kate,
now uses that account for various games) and, if you are on twitter,
you'll find me as @Morseman on there as well.

I do have other facebook accounts, under the names of David Ackrill
and even G0DJA, which is my Amateur Radio Callsign.

I do also use other chat systems, usually amateur radio related, so
please say 'Hello' if you come across me on other forums...

Another of my interests is Blue Plaques, and I'm in the process of
uploading some that have recently appeared arround Bolsover (which is
where I now live) to another site dedicated to Blue Plaques.

Having said all that, there are quite a number of historical sites
that I come across in my travels up and down the country (I work from
home but travel from Scotland to Brighton, and all sorts of points in
between) which may fall into categories that I hope may be of
interest.

What I need to know is, what is in for your site and what is out? I
don't want to upload loads of photographs if they are not of interest
and will just clog up your system.

I've got some that are pre-digital and a load that are post digital,
but may be of old places that may not be round for much longer, like
the Ghost Sign in Clowne which has now been demolished, so please let
me know what sorts of things that you want and don't want on
Historypin.

Thanks.

Dave

I've altered my profile to show as Morseman,

That's the name I use for most of my internet input, so I hope it wont
cause a problem to anyone.

Great to have you on board Dave and useful to know your other identities.

We have a very broad content policy on Historypin and our team does not prescribe what is and isn't Our key aims are around opening up institutional cultural collections, harnessing people's personal collections to tell the history of places and communities and to enable people to preserve photos and stories that might otherwise be lost. So any photos that help tell the history of a place or capture a moment in time are most welcome. You can also share primary audio and video clips.

At the moment the best photos are those which can be pinned to a single date and time & are taken outside at street level. These sit most naturally on the site and match the current pinning and street viewing system best.

However, we are keen for Historypin to be a home for all types of photos (eg. interior, aerial, portraits) that enrich and build the history of a place. Soon we will be improving the site so that it is easier to label these when you pin them, and introducing a more sophisticated search so that users can choose what type of photo, video or audio content to explore. We are also looking at ways of incorporating non-photographic material (eg. documents, architectural illustrations, oral histories etc) that enrich the context of photos.

The stuff you have been uploading so far is great - exciting to see these old signs brought to life, and preserved for posterity. If you're not sure about anything, or indeed have ideas about how we could improve Historypin to cater for particular types of photos, drop us a line.

Thank you for the reply Rebekkah,

Sorry for the delay in replying, New Year got in the way!

I have a few pictures of ghost signs, all taken from street level, from a variety of locations arround England and one in Scotland. I know the date and time they were taken as they were all taken using a digital camera and I tend to save all my pictures in folders with the name being the date that they were taken on.  I also keep a record of the latitude and longitude of the location of the ghost sign, so that I can pinpoint where it is in case anyone else wanted to go and look for them, so pinning them down on historypin should not be a problem.

I'll have a sort through and will start to upload some more when I get a bit of spare time.

Regards and Happy New Year

Awesome! As you have so much meta-data already, I will send you our bulk upload template in case you want to do a bulk upload which will automate the uploading and pinning process.

Happy New Year,

Rebekkah
