(bcc'ing the designer of the H13, just in case he's not on this list)

For some time I've been struggling with naming the sides of the H13. Left and right? North and South? I almost ended calling them "blue and grey" as in http://www.appropedia.org/Hexayurt_H13_Plywood#Naming_the_pieces

I had thought the best way around it is think of the H13 as an animal, a turtle perhaps.
That animal stands on its belly, the mouth is where the door is, and right and left have their places.
Now, looking at how the plywood pieces overlap each other, I think it's best to think of it in terms of an http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armadillo

Thoughts?

Pangolin? I like pangolins.

Heck we could name them all after animals :)

Elephant for the double height double stretch?

Agree the structures should have fun names with a common theme like an animal, mythical creature, or instrument.

It's easy to get a team of people excited about helping to build a turtle, then an H13 Hexayurt.

Other names:

Silver snail
Crab of Awesome!
Comfort Drum
Dragon

I built an H13 for BM this year, and of the names mentioned here,
armadillo seems to ring as closest to the H13. Pangolins are really
cool but, they're smaller than armadillos, and the H13 is taller/more
roomy than i.e. the H12 and other similar yurts. And of course the
metallic appearance of the H13 (with NO logos outside) gives it that
armored appearance (the one panel that has to have logos out, I
painted with silver paint to cover up the logos).

Though turtle or tortoise also strikes home for me because when the
turtle/tortoise's head emerges from its shell, it reminds me of waking
up and emerging from my H13 each morning to start a new day. Not only
are tortoises prehistoric, but they're of the few surviving creatures
today that have survived from those ancient times, ergo it's a
creature that could be said to define "sustainability". My favorite
is the Galápagos Tortoise, with life spans of over 100 years (a
captive one lived for 170!). If the whole name seems too long, we
could officially call it its full name, but when referring to it in
casual conversation/chat/emails, just shorten it to just "the
Galápagos".

Then again dragons are cool too, though somewhat large.
