Before I head down this journey - just checking if anyone uses transverters attached to the HL2 and if there are any real challenges involved?  ie what are the gotchas if any?

Thanks

Lou,

I am currently using 2 Hermes Lite2 boards with a pair of transverters from Q5 Signal (as liked from the Downeast Microwave group) with very excellent results. I am plenty active all over the satellites today with this configuration. I also use these on FT8 for VHF and UHF with equal success.
There are a couple minor things you have to do for this to work properly, as you need to add 1 antenna connection to HL2 on the header connector, and with PowerSDR you have to add a little text to the startup program to separate the configurations of the 2 systems, but all very minor things.
Feel free to ping me if you want any deeper details on this.
All the best, Walter/K5WH

Walter thanks for the info.  I noticed on the wiki " Due to filtering, there may be some attenuation in the 30 to 38.4"  have you been able to disable the filtering or is there a workaround?

I am not familiar with the filtering issue you mention here. Is that in the Hermes, or something else?

Not sure what is about, but I have no issues there.

I use a Hermes lite (deliberately built without the filters and I don't use the PA) as an IF radio for my transverter for 144MHz, this is used for EME and I have been very pleased with the results.

I certainly don't notice any issues with it.

Obvious from the above I use it with Seperate tx & rx connectors and with 0dBm to drive the transverter (G4DDK  Anglian), I do use Seperate TX & RX line up to the masthead.

Just a follow up, reason for no filter board was I was never.going to use it as a traditional hf set.

Have attached a pic taken tonight of rx off the moon using the Hermes lite with SDR Radio Console v3 which provides excellent support for Hermes Lite and for map 65 with a direct IQ output etc.

Hi Group,

Hamish, OH2GAQ, has been working on a transverter for the HL2. N2ADR and I have had some private correspondence with Hamish. He has now posted his work to the public. You can find it at Full Duplex MTC:
