It is way past time to finally close this topic: "What Changed?"
The title alludes to something that, sadly, was never actually touched upon
since Steve Berube much preferred to muddy the waters than engage in
reasonable public discourse.

else would like to participate, please wait until
later.
Steve, hopefully we can both be cordial enough at this
point to carry on a reasonable dialog in public. To
prove the point, I would like you to start this
discussion by asking me any question that you believe
is fair and reasonable. I will do my best to respond in
kind.
I was completely rebuffed by Steve. He had no questions for me since he did
not want to be questioned by me in any way. Steve's repeated mantra has been
"PUT UP OR SHUT UP". Yet I have been "putting up" repeatedly with verifiable
facts about the corrupt nature of the Starwood / Harmony Development people
Steve has been fronting for lately.
Here's the question again that Steve refuses to answer:
Q) What changed?
Before providing the answer myself, readers should know that prior to a
specific point in time, prior to a very specific exchange in this forum,
Steve's attitude was completely different than it is now. The reader is free
to verify this simply by reviewing Steve's writings before and after the
date to be provided below. Prior to that time Steve at least appeared to be
somewhat middle-of-the-road with his expressed views. In fact, Steve mostly
stuck to the facts and left the opinions to others. Steve had me fooled for
years. Then it all changed.
I wrote one thing that really set Steve off. It finally triggered the full
display of his true colors and also subsequently lead him to showing all of
us his extreme developer bias.
To be honest, I have always had a niggling doubt about Steve. I knew that he
was appointed by Bob Evans to the only two boards in Harmony (unlike any
other Harmony resident). Naturally anyone would wonder why Bob Evans would
do that (see "Lochmere Development Group"
http://tinyurl.com/7qmjsn5 ).
During one particular CDD meeting a few years back I experienced the usual
dismissive behavior on the part of Bob Evans as well as abusive behavior on
the part of Shad Tome. Yet even after noticing that Steve made not the
slightest effort to come to the aid of a fellow resident or to support me in
any way, I still gave him the benefit of the doubt. In fact, Steve was even
complicit in the falsification of the public record that occurred after that
meeting (see "Harmony Revisionism"
http://tinyurl.com/29pu945 ). Yet still I
did not hold that against him.
Then Steve proffered the sole resident vote in support of keeping Bob Evans
on as chairman of the Harmony CDD (see "Harmony CDD Chairman Election
Farce",
http://tinyurl.com/2a2pr63 ). Even after all that, I still gave
Steve the benefit of the doubt. I stupidly thought that he could somehow
remain impartial and unbiased in his representation of me, my family and
other Harmony residents on the two boards in Harmony.
But enough is enough.
What follows is what I believe triggered Steve's subsequent wrath and also
what motivated him to finally "come out" in public (see "Request for Fred
Hawkins - 2011-11-25",
http://tinyurl.com/6mhuey7 ). The date of Steve's
sudden change was 11/28/2011.

George, you can twist this around trying to make it say
what you want it to
George responded:
I am not the one twisting here Steve.
What I posted is 100% accurate.
Anyone can easily verify that Steve was lying when he suggested that I was
attempting to "twist" the truth. Note that the key words above were
"evenings only".
FYI, Steve frequently uses the words "twist" or "twisting" whenever he
really means to suggest that someone else is the one doing the lying.
The truth is in the public record of the CDD meeting in question (see
attachment). Once again Steve Berube, like Kerul Kassel (see "Full
Disclosure",
http://tinyurl.com/7gvcu3j ), voted against the interests of
Harmony residents and in favor of Bob Evans / Starwood / Harmony Development
Company.
That exchange is when Steve's attitude changed.
Steve simply could not take being called-out in public. Is that so unusual
for a public official in Osceola County? Apparently not.
Consider how County Commissioner Fred Hawkins reacted when I recently
questioned him about his unwillingness to witness the truth about School
Board Member Cindy Hartig's official lies (see "Request for Fred Hawkins -
2012-06-22",
http://tinyurl.com/78dyut6 ). In a knee-jerk reaction he
immediately threatened me with his attorneys. This is very similar to how
one of Commissioner Hawkins' chief political supporters reacted after its
corrupt behavior was uncovered recently (see "The Empire Strikes Back",
http://tinyurl.com/dx4pl4b ).
Cindy Hartig is the tragic character well known in Osceola County to be
personally responsible for most of the problems on the Osceola School Board
over the past few years (see "Today's Orlando Sentinel Editorial / Osceola
School Board - Cindy Hartig"
http://tinyurl.com/6mq335x ). If someone in
Commissioner Hawkins' position had been willing to speak the truth then, Ms.
Hartig may have resigned as school board chairperson a year before she
finally did. She may even have resigned from the school board altogether and
the latest disruption of school district leadership may have been avoided.
In this case, we can thank Fred Hawkins for personally doing the wrong thing
at the wrong time. Would someone else have had the strength of character to
do the right thing instead? Well yes actually. A well established member of
the press in our area finally did what Fred Hawkins refused to do. Thanks to
our founding fathers for a free press which has helped to expose public
corruption for more than 2 centuries now.
So no, Steve Berube's innate reaction to being called-out in public was to
instinctively lash out at the questioner, similar to what Starwood / Harmony
Development Company has done and just like Fred Hawkins did.
But shouldn't we expect more from the people we elect to represent us? I
think we should, if we ever hope to elevate ourselves above the mediocrity
and malaise that is Harmony and the surrounding Osceola County.
If we want a quality place to live, we had better start electing quality
people to represent us.
Of course Steve is entitled to non-respond in his usual way. Other than that
(plus anything that I might add), this topic is now closed.
