I'm the new pastor of my church and while looking through the building I came across two cases of handbells.  We don't have a handbell choir anymore and have no plans of ever having one again, so I am thinking about selling them.  I contacted the manufacturer to see what they might go for and they recommended this sight to me.  Here is what I know about the sets:

They were purchased by my church in 1993 and have set in their cases for roughly 5-7 years, at least.  They look to be in perfect condition and look hardly used.  We have two octaves and I was told that $4,000.00 to $5,000 would be a reasonable asking price.  I did take a couple of pictures that I attached to this post.  If you or someone you know would be interested in this, please contact me at eastsideba...@gmail.com.  If I can get a willing buyer then I can more easily get the necessary clearance to sell them.  Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi there! Just a question: since you're the me pastor there, have you asked around to see if anybody there is interested in re-starting the group? It's so sad to see bells not being used and your congregation may want to use them, if given the chance.

Or do you have a philosophical objection to using them?

Thanks!

Just FYI, you have one set of 2 octaves. They're just in two cases.  But it's not called two "sets."

Anybody communicating with that new pastor with bells to sell might want to email him/her directly. They might not have subscribed to handbell-l just to post an inquiry.

Just a thought...

Were the handbells purchased with memorial money?  If memorial funds were used it would be important to talk to each of the   families that "donated" money toward the purchase of the handbells. - tell  them what your intentions are and ask them  for input. Many families are very possessive about their memorial donations, how they were used  and   insist that the item    purchased with "their funds" stays in the church.  I worked in the church as a second career for 57 years and  was witness to this happening several  times.     The      reactions  ranged from  no problem to church members or entire families leaving the church causing a lot of turmoil and hard feeling that sometimes never were resolved. That's why so many churches have handbells in the closet not being used.

Blanche has a good point! If the bells can't be sold, you may consider
asking if they mind the bells bring loaned or even rented out to a local
community group or even another church. That way, the bells would be
used and the church might make a little money out of the deal. It
depends on what the donating family wants.

By the way, I forgot to include the brand.  They are Malmark and there is the paperwork in the case about the lifetime warranty.

*Sigh* Didn't work as well as I thought. Well, SPELLING check worked,
GRAMMAR check didn't. *Sigh*

The lifetime warranty is only good for the original purchaser.
from Malmark Care and Maintenance Instructions manual:

On bells purchased after October 1, 1984, Malmark, Inc. extends to the original purchaser, a Lifetime Guarantee.

Hello,

I am wondering if these handbells are still available?  I am the choir director of a small church in Richmond, VA which specializes in traditional worship.  We have an enthusiastic group of chime ringers and have recently begun shopping for some nice used handbells.

Thank you,
Ann Boelzner
