My church bell choir is working on Morning Sunrise by Michael Mazzatenta. I think there are a couple misprints.

In measure 37 has A5 and B5 yet the same chord has Ab4 and Bb6. Should I add two flat signs?

In measure 67 there is a quarter note chord but no rests to fill out the measure. What should be here?

Hi Paul,
My proof score had no issues in either of those bars - there were already flats on both the A5/B5 in b. 37 and all the beats are accounted for in b. 67 as well. I haven't seen the published version yet, so maybe something happened between the proof and published version. But my proof score had no errors at all. Strange?!

I reply:

So what should be in measure 67?

Well, I'm not sure what you don't have, so I'll give you everything in that bar: treble clef stem-up dotted half note D6 (tied into b. 68), treble clef stem-down half-note chord F5-G5-A5-C6 followed by the same chord (quarter note), bass clef - quarter note rest followed by a G4 half note. I'd be curious to know what was missing. Thanks!

I had been asking Michael Mazzatenta about  measure 67 in his piece Morning Sunrise. He replied:

I reply:

I don’t have the score in front of me to be sure... This looks to be identical to the corresponding place earlier in the piece (measure 11 I think).

In my score the bass clef is as you describe. In the treble clef the quarter note chord you describe for the third beat appears on the first beat and the half note chord and dotted half note are missing. If your publisher was using Finale to engrave the score I suspect what happened was the engraver tried to delete something in beat one and mistakenly deleted everything, easy to do in Finale.

Thank you,

Paul Kinney

Hi again Paul,
I checked the preview copy on Handbellworld, and it also has these omissions you have listed. I think that Bill Ingram and Jeff Curran are aware of this now and are working on correcting the score. Thanks again for the notice about this!
