All I get is plain text version of the selected text, not HAML.

Can you please specify the page where you try to do the conversion?

I selected the first several rows on http://news.ycombinator.com/ and then first several files on https://github.com/railsforcharity/spokenvote

Oh, I've got your point! The reason is it doesn't translate internal markup of the page, but explicit HTML, like the snippets on this page: http://twitter.github.com/bootstrap/scaffolding.html
Perhaps, I need to specify it more clearly at the extension description, it is, indeed, not very obvious.

I don't understand your response--if I use inspector to see the source of Hacker News I see a typical HTML table structure.

So, you're trying to convert from "view source" page? There's a note in the extension description that it is not possible to do that. I didn't dig deep why is that, but at the moment that's how the things work.

No, sorry, I meant if I looked at the same page's view source I see normal HTML table code for the content I selected. Not that I was attempting to generate HAML from the View Source page.

I am not sure I have understood you correctly. Can you please describe your actions and expected outcome step by step?
