Hey, Everyone -

We just resolved an issue with GWD authored creatives not uploading DoubleClick Campaign Manager (DCM). We had initially been instructed by DoubleClick to not use DoubleClick Studio for the creation of standard HTML5 banners unless they were rich media banners. Rather than the standard CTA method using the Exit Action, we were asked use manually coded clickTags as described here:

https://support.google.com/richmedia/answer/3182727?hl=en

On upload to DCM, the creatives were rejected with the following error message:

"You must include at least click tag in your HTML file. 9005"

The clickTag was implemented, but in working with the DoubleClick team we learned that the clickTag method described is only for creatives NOT coded in GWD.

GWD creatives should:

1. Use the standard GWD method for creating your call to actions:
https://support.google.com/webdesigner/answer/3263494?hl=en

2. Set the Metrics ID to: clickTag

3. Place any URL in the URL field. (DCM will override the URL)

When imported into DCM, the clickTag is recognized.

Once done, our creatives uploaded to DCM without incident! I have a note into DoubleClick to update their public-facing documentation to cover this.

+1000 for this answer. You just saved me a whole lot of time.

One question I do have though: Do all metrics IDs need to be named "clickTag", or just one of them?

Thanks for posting this Dan, it will certainly help users who are unsure how to implement clickTags when creating ads from GWD (hint: use Tap Area :-)

Hi, Jaz. this is the first time we are using GWD to create html5 ads. We are having clickTag issues. We've folioed the instructions but when uploaded it's not working. We got in touch with support and were given this code:

<html>
<head>
<meta name=”ad.size” content=”width=300,height=250”>
<script type="text/javascript">
var clickTag = "http://www.google.com"; </script>
</head>
[The rest of your creative code goes here.] </html>
Make sure your creative uses the click tag variable as the click-through URL:

<a href="javascript:window.open(window.clickTag)">
<img src="images/dclk.png" border=0>
</a>

But something seems to be missing. Do we need to still include the tap area and whatnot or if we place this code in manually does it override everything else and all we really have to change is the URL? I can't seem to find the page I'm looking for in the documentation.

Thank you. Jeremy.

Hi everyone!

This is not working in DBM. The platform is not overriding the URL of the creatives. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi. We had been having issues as well. first followed the instructions on their site. didn't work. then they gave us the code i had posted above. didn't work. then told us to do it like specified on their site and it worked. attached is what they sent us. don't know if this is your problem or not but it's been tough finding documentation so far.
