When I start the GWD I only get a black screen.

I am on a intel Core i7 with 8GB ram and a nVidia GTX 670 and Windows 8.1 Pro

I have reinstalled the GWD and always the same result, what am I missing here?

There is a black screen issue on launch with some locales (listed below).  We're working on a fix and release it shortly.  Sorry for the inconvenience!

If you are on Linux, you can use the workaround found by Xavier Mendez:

To fix, open terminal and type exactly:

  rm -r .local/share/google-web-designer

Then, to run GWD:

  LANGUAGE=en_US google-webdesigner

It will be started in english, you can now start it as normal.

For Windows or Mac, you can switch your system locale to en_US temporarily to use GWD until we release a fix sometime next week.

Thanks,
San

This does NOT work for me on Arch Linxu, the log says :

Same problem here (blank screen), GWD on Ubuntu 14.04 (Unity).
My locales are already en_US-UTF8
Graphics card is an Nvidia GT 610 on nvidia-331 driver.
Same error message:

E0429 18:55:59 ../shell/linux/main.cc:278] Failed to load shell configuration from "http://www.gstatic.com/ninja/config/shell_config.xml"

Hi All,

We've just released a fix for the black screen issue on GWD supported versions. Please take a look at our release notes for more information.

Note:

If the problem persists, close Google Web Designer, delete the following folder, and relaunch:

  • Windows: HD:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Google Web Designer\data\cache(note: you need to enable “Show hidden files, folders, and drives” in Folder options View tab)
  • Linux: ~/.local/share/google-web-designer/data/cache
  • Mac: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Google/Web Designer/data/cache

thx!
jaz

The problem remains...

The cache folder is empty, and I can delete it every time but it keeps failing to load shell..

:(

The problem persists even after trying to delete the cache folder and even with Xaviers suggestion of locale. I'm using the latest GWD and I'm on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Log says:-

E0504 15:54:40 ../shell/linux/main.cc:278] Failed to load shell configuration from "http://www.gstatic.com/ninja/config/shell_config.xml"

I'm also not using any proxy server. I can visit that link in my browser fine. cURL also works well.

I had the same problem on my Samsung notebook, the problem relates to switchable graphics, when I was trying to launch application on AMD Radeon™ HD 7670M, it showed me black screen, when I switched back to Intel HD Graphics it worked fine.

Hi demw and promo,

Users have reported that updating their video driver resolved the issue. Promo, can you try this and let us know if the issue is resolved?

thx

Disabling secondary graphics card solves the issue for me.

I'm on an "Acer Aspire" with i5 processor (integrated Intel graphics card) and Radeon R7 M265 graphics card. Disabling the latter for Google Web Designer through Catalyst control center make it appear again.

I'm running 64 bit Ubuntu 15.10 and even after using the locale fix (and I am using en-UK which should not be a problem), I am still getting a blank (white) screen.

Changed to proprietary Nvidia driver and after starting from the command line (setting locale to en-US I got:
[0404/171547:ERROR:browser_gpu_channel_host_factory.cc(133)] Failed to create channel.
