I'm a long time user of Growl. So, when I got a new iMac, I decided
to install Growl on this machine. Found out Growl is now in App
store... no problem.. worth the cost for me.
I paid and installed the app. Only application showing in the list is
Alfred. I've restarted the system, and I've tried several other
things. I don't see iTunes or Mac Mail. Do these not work in this
new paid version of Growl?

for iTunes you can grab the latest version of GrowlTunes from the
1.2.2 disk image, or use GrowlTunesPlugin http://github.com/rudyrichter/growltunesplugin we are currently in the process of rewriting GrowlTunes.app to bring
it out of the dark ages and make it a more useful utility.

Thanks to Apple's influence in the Mac software market place, many apps are having to make major changes in how they operate. The details are both complicated and sometimes burdensome on developers, but it's Apple's way or use your own servers to distribute your software...and lose the publicity of being in the Mac App Store.
Growl is just one of the apps that had to make some changes. First of all, other developers had to make connections to Growl even possible. Now that Growl had to change, those other apps have to make more changes. And Apple probably sees no benefit with making any changes to make use of an app that they didn't create. That's why GrowlMail was created. But your older version of it now needs to be updated. Just visit this site <http://code.google.com/p/growlmail/downloads/detail?name=GrowlMail-1.3.2.zip&can=2&q=> and download GrowlMail-1.3.2 and install it. Your notifications from Mail should resume. ;-)
