Hi!
I am trying to forward the notifications of my mac mini to my macbook.
I have activated the forwarding on both macs but it just doesn't
work...

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

What version of Growl are you using on both ends?

Forwarding doesn't work for me either, at least not reliably. I am using 1.3.1 on two computers, both running Lion 10.7.2. Mac mini is set to forward to my Macbook. There is an auto-discovered entry for the Macbook in the mini's receiver list; it is checked. The Macbook is set to listen for incoming notifications. No password is set, and no password has been entered in the receiver list on the mini.

Once or twice the Macbook has successfully received a notification from the mini. But when this happens, usually Growl on the mini will crash and quit. Other times, Growl on the Macbook will crash and quit while receiving a notification (without showing it). Most of the time, nothing happens at all. I can't figure out under what circumstances any of these outcomes happens.

Different messages will show up in the system log on either machine when a notification is sent but not received. Here is one set that frequently shows up on the receiving machine:

2011/12/05 12:15:48.740 PM Growl: There was a missing <hashalgorithm>:<keyHash>.<keySalt> with encryption or remote, set error and return appropriately
2011/12/05 12:15:48.740 PM Growl: Error occurred: Error domain GrowlNetwork, code 400 (The operation couldn’t be completed. Missing, malformed, or invalid key hash string).
2011/12/05 12:15:48.740 PM Growl: Failed reading with error: Error Domain=GrowlNetwork Code=400 "The operation couldn’t be completed. Missing, malformed, or invalid key hash string" UserInfo=0x7ff4cb1d8150 {NSLocalizedFailureReason=Missing, malformed, or invalid key hash string}

And here's a message that often shows up on the sending machine:

12/5/11 12:23:45.632 PM Growl: The application or notification is not registered on the host

Hope this helps.

I'm having the same problem. Everything seems to be configured as it
should be. I'm not sure I have the correct openings in the firewall
though. What, exactly, should those settings look like (using the Lion
firewall settings panel)?

I too am having trouble getting the Network notifications setup...
Running Growl 1.3.2 on a Mini and MacBook, both with 10.7.2. Mini is
set to forward the notifications and the MacBook is set to receive, no
password on either end. I confirmed port 23053 was open on the
MacBook.

I downloaded the growlApplescriptBasicSample to test the notifications
with and nothing shows up on the MacBook but they are showing up on
the Mini.

I checked the console and have the same set of error messages as dork:

12/27/11 4:01:07.600 PM Growl: There was a missing
<hashalgorithm>:<keyHash>.<keySalt> with encryption or remote, set
error and return appropriately
12/27/11 4:01:07.601 PM Growl: Error occurred: Error domain
GrowlNetwork, code 400 (The operation couldn’t be completed. Missing,
malformed, or invalid key hash string).
12/27/11 4:01:07.601 PM Growl: Failed reading with error: Error
Domain=GrowlNetwork Code=400 "The operation couldn’t be completed.
Missing, malformed, or invalid key hash string" UserInfo=0x1033f92f0
{NSLocalizedFailureReason=Missing, malformed, or invalid key hash
string}
12/27/11 4:01:07.605 PM Growl: Failed application registration for
application with no name; wrote failed registration dictionary
0x7f8a6a1507b0 to /Users/user/Library/Logs/Failed Growl registrations/
unknown-application.growlRegDict

Any ideas on how to get this running?

Thanks
