There is no way for Growl itself to do this. The problem is that Apple won't allow it. There are hacks like the bark plugin, but that plugin wouldn't be acceptable in the app store.

The real solution is to get applications to update to the 2.0 framework. When you hit that switch, then the app sending the notification will indeed be listed, but also use Growl.

I have just started using it and love it thus far. But I looks quite sad with just the Growl icon when I use other apps. It would look alot better with the specific app icon along with that as well. It's the only thing missing right now. With a potential update I will gladly recommend the Application to my friends and colleagues.

Even when an app is updated to the 2.0 framework, if it sends an picture to the notification center, the icon is a generic App icon with a "do not enter" line through it.  The same notification works fine when using Growl and not NC. What gives there?
