After learning just how relaxed Canadian regulations are regarding kite/balloon heights (just dont fly into cloud or in a way that *you think* endangers aircraft basically), and after some
recent close encounters with sea planes, I am really interested in Canadian regulations and best practices for flying objects in the sky.
This segment of The Current (22 mins) is good food for thought regarding regular people flying things in the same sky that manned aircraft uses. The last speaker talks about the potential of using transponders with drones that would make them more obvious to other aircraft, which I think is interesting and maybe useful for kites and balloons.
How easy would lightweight transponders be to DIY? Is that even practical when you could just call up air traffic control and tell them where you are?
