Drop files onto Web Page

I've seen a few topics on this, but most are a few years old at this point. I was wondering if there are any ways to drop a file onto the webpage from a folder (Windows in this case) and have it upload or prepare to upload much like how GMail does it. I've seen a few ways to "fake" it, I was wondering if in the past couple of years if it became easier?
