All,
Google recently announced this:

http://googlecode.blogspot.com/2011/11/javascript-client-library-for-google.html?m=1

I'd like to know what the best way is to use this library in combination with GWT without writing wrappers (since that feels like a work-around).

Really looking forward to your answers.

Use JOT: Javascript Overlay Type:
http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/doc/latest/DevGuideCodingBasicsOverlay.html
It's an OO approach, works nice and is easy to mock in test
environment (not GWTTestCase).
Example: I use it to access my Js file to add CSS3 properties like
borders and shadows (using a HTC file in IE).

I understand that using wrappers might feel like a workaround but
isn't.
GWT offers you a way to talk to Javascript through JSNI and at the end
it's all Javascript anyway.
