Hello,

I’m working with a client on an application I have written using gwt-
google-apis Maps. They’re interested in upgrading the application to
use new features available in Google Maps Javascript API v3. Does
anyone have an estimate as to when gwt-google-apis project will
support the Google Maps Javascript API v3?

Thank you,
Brett

There is no timeline for supporting maps v3 with GWT bindings officially in gwt-google-apis.  There are some other projects out there you can use such as http://code.google.com/p/gwt-google-maps-v3/

Hi Regnoult

Yes thanks so much for the kind reply.
I've seen that thread, and what I can gather from Eric post is that this is a best effort thing and not a production ready release.
As stated by him on his reply: the documentation is rough, the api does not follow convention, and again, it is not a release candidate nor has a release date been established for this API.

My question still stands : When for the RC? When the release date? When for decent documentation?

I would hate to migrate a V2 API with paid license to a V3 unsupported best effort pre-release API to which we get almost no answers from the development team about ... and if fact don't know if there is even a team of sorts.

Regnoult ,

I might suggest GWT-Maps-V3-Api . As you can see from the showcase, pretty much every maps feature is there and working. It is the 'beta' only because it has not been pushed out to Maven Central yet (JIRA is pending). Once that is ready I'll make it 3.8.0. There are also ~1K unit tests to confirm proper functionality.

Right now I'm working on flushing out all the v3.9 API features (Heatmaps, Weather layers). Should have the 3.9.0 beta out this weekendm for download.

The download jars are from April, but you can build the current head if you like without issue. The code has been in production at sites like Cycling the Alps for half a year now.

Sincerely,
Joseph

Thanks Axel,

Best luck with your maps efforts. To address a point you raised:

I am thinking that if I test it and it works at home, so it will also work in production (even if it is a pre-release version). The debate of the documentation is another problem, but as I said, I will need the basic functionalities of the Google Map, and for a more complex project, in 4 or 6 month, I hope that a stable, well documented version will be released.

There is documentation for the GWT-Maps-V3-API online alone with a showcase covering nearly every feature and the most recent builds for download, it seems to me everything you need is there to crank out maps immediately with GWT. While there is the other API from the team working on IDL generation, I've been using and supporting this one since the V3 GWT support has been in flux for years, but this one is here and ready for use for those who need it.

Sincerely,
Joseph
