Hi,
I had used GWT back in the 1.4 days, and recently had a project that
I thought I could use it again. I have had some difficulty
installing, however. As suggested here:

http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/usingeclipse.html#eclipse

I downloaded eclipse-java-helios-SR2-macosx-cocoa-x86_64.tar.gz for my
Mac running OSX 10.7, extracted it, ran it, and added the plugin via
"Install new Software" with the URL: http://dl.google.com/eclipse/plugin/3.6

When I go to add the plug-in, I get this error:

An error occurred while collecting items to be installed
session context was:(profile=epp.package.java,
phase=org.eclipse.equinox.internal.p2.engine.phases.Collect, operand=,
action=).

I don't know how to proceed. This is a fresh Eclipse and a fresh
GWT. Any suggestions? Thanks for any help you can provide.

GPE has a dependency on components from the web tools platform, which is project thats part of eclipse.org.  You may want to check and see if you have the main eclipse helios update site available in your available software sites (same place you added the GPE update site) and enabled.  For some reason, some installs appear not to have them available immediately after install.

If its not there for some reason, you should be able to add it through the same way you added the GPE update site, and when you attempt to install GPE it should pick up the dependency properly and give you the ability to fulfill the installation request.

helios release update site:

One final note:  You'll probably have better longevity going forward setting up on the current platform (Indigo/3.7) as opposed to the prior platform (Helios/3.6).

Download GWT SDK from the link "http://code.google.com/webtoolkit/
download.html". Extract the gwt-2.4.0.zip file to your own
directory. In eclipse IDE choose the Project -->Properties-->Google--
>Web Toolkit-->configure sdk tab. Point to your extracted gwt-2.4.0
directory.
