Hi,
I'm using the geochart api in a webpage that can be see in development
here:
http://www.auburn.edu/~jpw0011/index.php
Each of the four maps on this page uses the geochart api, and each map
is pulling data from an external file hosted in google docs. Two of
the maps should show Belize as highlighted, as Belize is in the
spreadsheet and listed like the other countries that are colored.
After hovering the mouse over the maps for a while, it seems as if
Belize is comepletely missing from the map.

Any chance in the world someone could update the map used for the
geochart API to include Belize? :-) Or, if I'm mistaken and the Map
does include Belize, could someone maybe explain how it's not showing
up colored/highlighted when the other countries are?

Thanks for your time,
J

I think the problem is that Belize is too small.  I built a jsfiddle with a larger map and it works fine: http://jsfiddle.net/ynSJ8/

Thanks for this ... but when you say works fine, do you mean Belize is
showing up colored in dark green? Because I'm not seeing that. It
should be just south of Mexico, right? I can see Guatemala and
Honduras ... but now that I'm looking, I don't see El Salvador (not
that these should be colored or anything, but I don't even see the
outline or border) and definitely no Belize.

Thanks, but I'm still confused and now I'm worried about El Salvador.
doh!

This is strange, when I make the map even larger (large enough to actually see Belize), it no longer works.  Belize is not colored in and does not respond to mouseovers.  Same with Ecuador: http://jsfiddle.net/ynSJ8/5/

Yeah, I doubled the size of that huge one, and I can see Belize and El
Salvador now ... but neither one colors.

So ... I wonder who we call at google to see what's up with the bugs
in the geochart. :-)

Thanks for your help, dude! Much obliged!

In order to make the loading of our maps fast and consume as little client memory as possible, we have an offline process that automatically simplifies the border of the countries. Of course we still want the map to look good when displayed at a reasonable size. At large sizes, such as the ones you experimented with, you can see the simplification very well.

One of the symptoms of this simplification is that small countries may disappear, or, as in Belize and El Salvador, turn into lines.
You can still hover over that line and get events, but sadly we don't know how to fill a line :)

Until we improve the simplification algorithm, you can always use regional maps (e.g., Central America - region: '013') to see small countries.
