Quirksmode and NumberRangeFilter (ControlWrapper)

When I'm in quirksmode (omit line <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">) then the NumberRangeFilter looks off.
I tried min-width, 100% width but the labels still are positioned above and below the control. Other controls however look fine. Should I use my own cssClass to counter act or is strict the only way to proceed?
