Hello,

The Places library makes you bound a search to a bounding rectangle or a location plus a radius, thus leaving me with the feeling that it's geared towards "local searches".

What if I want to replicate the behavior of http://maps.google.com?  I just want to search for "apple store texas" and have markers dropped only in Texas.  Or search for "apple store california" and have markers drop only in California.  How do I accomplish that?

Thanks for the help.

I think you'll need your own dataset of apple stores, Google won't let
you set up in competition with them using their dataset.

If the task is a specific as apple stores, using your own database is
feasible and commonly done e.g. all those real estate webpages with
maps.
