I am in process of creating a GIS inventory of the Appalachian Trail
in central Virginia for the Natural Bridge Appalachian Trail Club
(NBATC). See: http://nbatc-lmp.jtphillips.com/, note guest login and
password are as displayed: nbatcviewer, Guest_r0

We are a non-profit club, but chartered by the Appalachian National
Scenic Trail (US park service) to maintain this section of the trail.
This database will be used as part of a Local Management Plan, which
is reviewed Forest Service, Park Service etc. With a limited number
of interested users (50 maintainers), the free API seems to be all
that I need.

The question is am I missing anything?

You should be fine.

Definitely sounds adequate. If you find it isn't, you can apply for a Google Grant:
