Hi guys,

When I try to print a google map with direction in IE8(also in
Compatibility View), it always gives me an empty map with the route
line and markers. Tiles are not shown.

Here is an example:

If I choose start, waypoints and end to get the direction from this
page
http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/directions-waypoints.html

It is printed as this:

It doesn't matter whether I print to real printer or PDF file since
they are the same.

If I don't submit the route and only print the map it works
correctly.

Could anyone give me some suggestion? Thanks a lot!

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/directions-waypoints.html displays correctly for me in print preview in IE8 under Windows Vista. Can you give some more details to reproduce the error? Have you tried any other computers or printers?

Thanks
Ben

Thanks Ben. Yes the print preview works alright, but if I choose the
route and print it to a real printer or PDF printer like PrimoPDF/
CutePDF, it doesn't show the map. Mine one is IE8 under Win7, and I
tried another IE8 under Vista still has the same problem. Chrome and
Safari also don't work, but Firefox and Opera can show the map.

Sorry for the holdup, I got distracted by another project.

The CSS on that demo page (http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/directions-waypoints.html) is unfortunately not designed for printing. The "map_canvas" element is relatively sized which seems to break printing in the browsers I tried. I think this is the issue you've seen. We'll update the docs to use absolute sizing on this page so that it prints.

I made a copy of that page where the map_canvas had "width:400;height:600". I installed PrimoPDF and printed to it from Chrome 9, Firefox 3.6 and IE7 (all on Windows XP). Attached are the screenshots. Printing works for me in Chrome and Firefox, and partially in IE7. In IE7 only half of the route is visible. I'll look into that.

Cheers
Ben

Anyone knows if this is still supposed to happen?

With IE8, when I print, I get the result displayed in the ie7_primo_pdf.PNG.

I can even see that in the print preview.

Any idea how to fix that?

Jimmy.

Cheers
Ben
