Polygon smooth show/hide effects

Does anyone know of some sample code or has played with showing / hiding polygons in a visually smooth approach?

I imagine that between javascript setTimeout() and the fillColor and fillOpacity properties of a google.maps.Polygon some nice "glow in / glow out" effect code exists out there.
