Given that when you select an item, the DOM object is assigned to the variable $0 in the console, then you could probably write a little bit of javascript to do this - the below isn't terribly efficient and may not be absolutely correct (parentNode, parentElement?? etc) but it broadly does what you want

Give it a try and see if it's good enough - you can then just include it in your own page code or put it in an extension to add it as a method to document if you want etc (assuming Paul Irish doesn't tell us its already provided somewhere)
