Reporting API and meaning of last_login_date, last_web_mail_date, and last_pop_date

In the accounts report I am seeing unexpected results for
last_login_date, last_web_mail_date, and last_pop_date for some users,
for example last_web_mail_date is more recent than last_login_date.
Is there a detailed description of these fields that could explain
this behavior?
I have verified the results via downloading account reports through
the control panel
