The Google,

For the last few days, I've been noticing incoming requests to /_ah/bounce that get 404'd . I did a quick web search and found no documentation around it, just some source code I that's part of app engine which I don't understand. Presumably, some of my e-mails are bouncing. Is there a way I can intercept them so I can see what's going on? I don't have any idea what's going on.

Thanks,
John

This appears to be new and useful functionality. I installed a servet at _ah/bounce and it reports back legitimate bounce messages in the body of the request, similar to what you'd see if an e-mail bounced back into your inbox. However, the request body itself doesn't appear to be parsable with a mail api like James. I have not heard of this feature before but I do see bug reports about bounces being misrepresented in the docs. Hopefully, The Google will elaborate.

I discovered /_ah/bounce a few days ago and am using it now ... this functionality was expected in 1.7.4 and then it wasn't announced with the release ... not sure if what i am seeing is permanent though.

I've been trying to trigger some calls to /_ah/bounce, no luck. Wonder if this has been turned off.

Would you mind sharing the format of the bounce message?

Spoke too soon, /_ah/bounce actually works. Please ignore my earlier message :)

Hi All,

You caught us :) We've been working on adding a mail bounce notification feature, and as part of our testing process we accidentally enabled it for production applications. We're looking forward to releasing this feature shortly, so stay tuned.

Thanks,
Christina

It's not happening anymore. I was getting incoming requests to /_ah/bounce. These worried me because I didn't know what they meant, so I installed a servlet to handle the requests. In the servlet, I printed the request body to the logs. The request body contained bounce notifications like what you'd see if you sent an e-mail to klasjdlkasj...@jfjhfjsafidjd.com

Could you tell what you did to make the /_ah/bounce work for you. I have a Java App Engine application and have mapped the /_ah/bounce url to my Servlet. But the servlet is not getting invoked. I can see all the invocations to /_ah/bounce in the AppEngine logs via the Admin Console.

Any tips to make it work or things to check ?
