I tried to install gozk from Launchpad and bumped into this:

package launchpad.net/gozk: cannot download, http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~gozk/gozk/trunk/ uses insecure protocol

Is plain http not allowed and if so is launchpad based locations permanently broken?

You can add the "-insecure" flag to use raw http. I assume you're aware of the security implications...

go get -u -insecure launchpad.net/gozk

Yes which is why it would be good to hear from the maintainer of the package and/or anyone from Canonical to see if it is possible to default to https instead.
