Our organization just switched over to google apps.  The first time I tried to send an e-mail I noticed that there were none of the other employees I work in the address book.  When I asked about this I was told that I would have to add each person as I went along.  When we were on the exchange server before I could just bring up the contacts and select who I wanted to send the e-mail too and away we go.

Why is this feature missing in google apps mail?

An address list, whether it's Microsoft Exchange or Google Apps or
Gmail, only gets there when someone fills it with addresses.
Apparently your system administrators put it there (or it gets
automatically filled in) in the Microsoft Exchange system, but they
didn't bother to do that in Google Apps.

The feature is there, just not filled in.

I have a Google Apps account for a non-profit, and they have a
complete contacts list with everyone in it. It didn't show up right
away, but after a few weeks.

Hi guys

Exchange uses Active Directory to share contacts internally.

In Google Apps, you need to enable contact sharing from the control panel at https://www.google.com/a/cpanel/yourdomain/ServiceSettings#ServiceSettings/service=contacts (replacing yourdomain with your actuall domain).

But to Andy's point... it's the administrator that takes care of it.  And in Exchange, it's still the same thing, it has to be enabled by an administrator, it's not a user set function.
