First expiry (assuming the date hasn’t already been past).

This is better expressed as “shortest shelf-life first”

Hi Ramiz

It is not really about which is better – it is about which one you need to apply.

If your newly delivered stock, for some reason, had a shorter shelf life than your existing stock then you should use FEFO. This may happen occasionally with products with long shelf lives and different suppliers

Usually FIFO would be fine as your deliveries should have longer shelf lives than your existing stock

Regards

Richard

Hi Ramiz,

Hope all is well.

It depends  on the food items, sometimes you can't follow FIFO as well FEFO.

For example Raw vegetables will be used based on quality of the product only not FIFO and it doesn't have any expiry label as well most of the times.

Dear Ramiz,

I agree with Richard, it depends on your need.

FIFO system  can be followed for the products you receive that comes from one supplier only.

FEFO system can be followed for products you receive that comes from two or more suppliers.

If you have noted that your supplier is not following FIFO that can be a reason for rejection during receiving. However, you can only do this if you have a very good receiving recording system that can be used to trace expiry dates of the products you received.

Regards,

Eleanor Jimenez
