First Parish Parent Circles

Rev. Amy Freedman, our Minister of Religious Education, will offer three Parent Circles on topics of interest to today’s parents.  Each session will feature someone with additional wisdom and expertise to share.

·      Sunday, January 22, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Parenting in the Digital Age, Rev. Amy Freedman and Peter Bowden

·      Sunday, January 29, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Talking With Children about Death, Rev. Amy Freedman, Jean Chandler and Dawn Van Patten

·      Sunday, February 5, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Sandwich Generation: Caring for Aging Parents and Children, Revs. Amy Freedman and Marion Visel

Advocates for Women’s Empowerment

An AWE meeting will be held on Saturday, January 14, at 8:00 a.m. in the Greeley Room at First Parish. At the meeting, we will be discussing details for Women’s Marches and other events planned, as well as making scarves & signs for marchers in DC and Boston. Want to help marchers?  Come to the Brooks Room on Sunday, January 15 at 11:30 a.m. to help make signs and scarves! Contact Lora Venesy at ven...@comcast.net with any questions.

 

“Standing on the Side of Love”- RE Workshop

Following the Blessing of Marchers, all children and youth are invited to a special social action workshop. “Standing on the Side of Love” is a public advocacy campaign that seeks to harness love’s power to stop oppression sponsored by the Unitarian Universalist Association.  CC King will energize us through movement!  Then we will make scarves and signs for the “Women’s March for America”. Parents of children Preschool- 3rd Grade are asked to pick up their children in their classrooms. Older children and youth will be dismissed to Coffee Hour.

Lion Dance- Lunar New Year Celebration

Next Sunday, Sunday, January 22, Wah Lum Kung Fu of Concord is coming to First Parish!  They will be performing the traditional Lion Dance during the service. Then they will offer Kung Fu lessons and demonstrations in the Emerson Room to different age groups.  In our RE classes we will learn about Lunar New Year which begins on Saturday, January 28, 2017.

 

Our Whole Lives (OWL) Parent Orientations

This year, First Parish is pleased to offer comprehensive sexuality education not only to adolescents but also to 1st and 5th graders! This program will be offered in the Spring for 8 Sundays during regular Religious Education time: 10:15-11:15 a.m.. Please save the date! 5th Grade OWL Parent Orientation: Saturday, January 28, 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m. 1st Grade Parent Orientation: Saturday, February 4, 9:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m.. Childcare will be available on February 4. If you decide not to have your child participate, they will be included in another RE class during the 8-week program.  One parent or guardian from each family is required to attend the orientation before children may participate in the program.  To sign-up for the Parent Orientation or for more information, contact Amy, afre...@firstparish.org.

 

Cradles to Crayons Clothing Drive

Bring your gently used children's clothing (especially coats and boots) to coffee hour on Sunday, January 29!  The Alcott/Nashoba 1st grade Daisy Girl Scout troop will be staffing a table at coffee to collect these items. They deliver them to Cradles to Crayons, a Boston-based non-profit who provides children from birth through age 12, living in homeless or low-income situations, with the essential items they need to thrive. Mom’s Night Out Event: Ladies Night at the Theatre
