Are you using *Firebug*, or *Firefox development tools*?

Do you see "Inspect element", or "Inspect element with Firebug"?

Thank You.

firebug is not compatible with e10s, Also several internal APIs changed.
Since there is not enough manpower to rewrite it it was decided years
ago to discontinue it in favor of the built in developer tools. There is
a guide how to migrate
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Tools/Migrating_from_Firebug

If you're missing something, please have a look whether it is already
listed as blocker

of bug 991806 <https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991806>. If
not, please file a new bug and mark it as blocker of that one.

This doesn't help anything. Please be more specific. Did you read the
migration guide?

Yes.

Has anyone figured out why Firefox dev tools will show an empty CSS properties tab at times?

My primary use for Firebug / Firefox dev tools is to re-write broken CSS on the webpages I go to, as a test/preview for Stylish.

I'd *love* something that could save my edits, instead of my having to re-enter them each time until I remembered to make a new stylish entry for it.

Firefox 56 is not compatible with Firebug. This is what I did to make it run again:
- uninstall Firefox silent update service by running "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Service\uninstall.exe" to prevent automatic Firefox updates
- disable automatic updates from preferences: https://www.bleepstatic.com/tutorials/browsers/firefox/silent-updates/firefox-update-tab.jpg
- install previous version of Firefox from here: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/54.0.1/

Now with Firefox 54 I'm a happy user. Firebug is back again

Just to be clear, staying with an outdated version of a software is normally not recommendable, because you miss security and other bug fixes and also new features.

Firebug users are advised to try out the Firefox DevTools. And if you don't like them or miss a feature Firebug had, you should provide constructive feedback to the Firefox DevTools team (or even help them improve the tools).

As Erik and I wrote earlier, the development of Firebug is discontinued and it stops working completely in Firefox 57 (released on 2017-11-14), so it's time to say goodbye to Firebug.

The suggested solution is to use the Firefox DevTools instead. For everyone unfamiliar with them, there's a migration guide for Firebug users. Missing a feature Firebug had? They are listed in Bugzilla (the Mozilla issue reporter). The feature you're missing is not listed there? File a new bug report and mark it as blocker for bug 991806.
