I don't believe you can. Firebug is deprecated and no longer
developed. (It does not work on multi-process browser builds. Getting
it to do so would require a ground up rewrite, and there is no one to
do that.)

And non-Firefox versions of it haven't been maintained in some time
because there is no one to do it.

Your option in both Chrome and in current Firefox builds is to use the
browser's built in developer tools. (There is a bug filed against
Firefox to track stuff Firebug provided that isn't in Firefox
Developer Tools and needs to be added.)

I don't believe you can.  Firebug is deprecated and no longer
developed.  (It does not work on multi-process browser builds. Getting

Just to clarify things a bit more, what you want to install is called Firebug Lite, which is not Firebug and is not maintained anymore for several years now.
Also Firebug (the Firefox extension) is not developed anymore and rather the Firefox built-in DevTools are pushed instead.

Your option in both Chrome and in current Firefox builds is to use the
browser's built in developer tools.  (There is a bug filed against
Firefox to track stuff Firebug provided that isn't in Firefox
Developer Tools and needs to be added.)

For what it's worth, here's the link to that bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991806

Having said that, the Firefox DevTools team is working on reviving the idea of Firebug Lite, i.e. providing a unified interface to debug different browsers. The idea behind that is to run the developer tools as a website. See https://github.com/devtools-html for more info.
