I'm not sure if it was firebug updating to 1.11.3 or firefox updating to version 21, but one or the other has caused my browser to slow to a crawl when firebug is open.

Does it also happen if you create a new Firefox profile with only Firebug installed?

What OS do you use?

What exactly should we do to see the problem on our machines?
(e.g. what page should we load?)

Same situation for me. Running OS X10.8.3 and Firefox 21.0

I get lots of spinning beach balls when Firebug is activated on a page. I'm not doing anything special in particular outside of viewing a website with Firebug open. Doesn't seem to matter which tab is highlighted. Is there anything else I can give you to help debug the problem?

Does anyone experience the same problem on different OS?

Please create a new issue report here:
http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/list

(and put the link here so, others can also follow the bug report)

The most important thing for us is to reproduce the problem on our machines.
So, please provide detailed (baby) steps about how to see the problem.

If I understand correctly, you didn't have the problem with 1.11.2, right?

I'm using Firefox 21 on Windows 7 Ultimate. Regardless of which page you open if you have firebug opened it goes incredibly slow.

I created a new profile and it works fine, so for me it is some kind of conflict between firebug and another add-on. I'll try and figure out which one.
It is also only a problem if firebug is open and the console enabled.  The slowdown seems to be worst at page load and on ajax requests.

Also, I am on Windows 7 64 bit Professional, firebug 1.11.3 and firefox 21

The conflict is with Ghostery.

If I white list the site I am using Firebug with then there is no problem. Not ideal, but a good enough work around.

What we need is detailed description of how to
reproduce the problem on our machines.

Could anyone provide such info?

Thanks!

Investegated a liitle bit more. Everything goes OK if both Console and Script panes are disabled. Enabling any of them makes everything very slow.
Creating new FireFox profile doesn't help.

Hi Honza & all,

I too have had this just occur. To recollect what I did: I updated Firebug to 1.11.3 about two days back, less.js (it mentions how long it takes to load the less CSS) jumped to about 2secs from 1.6secs previously.

About half an hour back, I updated Firefox to 21 & immediately after my firebug has slowed down to a crawl. The same less.js page is taking 45secs + to load. Am using Windows 7 Premium.

I am installing on Ubuntu 12.10 as well & will report back with results.

Best,

I don't know.  I don't usually bother with firefox betas, but I installed 22 beta in the hopes that it would fix firebug, and it seems very slow (maybe equally slow to firefox 21, hard to say) to me.  I'm running Windows 7.  Disabling firebug makes it fast again.  I haven't experimented with disabling other extensions yet....

I am running under Win Vista with this config:

Firefox 21 + Firebug 1.11.3
and I am not seeing the problems described above.

Here is an example of what I have tried:

1) Load http://www.softwareishard.com/har/viewer/?path=examples/inline-scripts-block.har
(it's a page with a lot of JS on it, which I think is good in this case)
2) Open Firebug and enable all panels
3) Refresh the page
4) Switch among various panels and refresh the page again

Can anyone see the problem using these steps?

If no, can you post your steps?

Thanks!
Honza

Hi Honza,

Just tried your instructions & here are my results:

Pretty painful though not as painful as in my case with Less.js taking 45s+.

I still need to test on Ubuntu 12.1 & post the results here.

Hope this helps,

This problem has been reported as Issue 6458 - http://code.google.com/p/fbug/issues/detail?id=6458 and escalated to a potential platform bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=876075 based on the JSD introduced with Firefox 21.
