I can install firebug just fine. I shows up in the add-ons, but it is
nowhere to be found when I want to use it. How do I get my favorite
add-on to work? It disappeared when I upgraded and a fresh install
didn't fix it. I miss Firebug. :(

So, you don't see any Firebug button in Firefox toolbar?

Check this post:

Also, does Firebug appear if you press F12?

Lately I also sometimes realized, that the Start Button was not automatically put into the toolbar when I installed Firebug in a fresh profile.
Though maybe that's just on FF 10.0a1. At least when I installed it in FF 7.0.1 right now the Start Button appears in the toolbar, but I didn't investigate any further yet. Could also be a conflict with add-ons, that are automatically installed into each new profile like virus scanner add-ons etc.

I have been looking several time into this, but never able to find
a reproducible test case. Please let me know as soon as you see it
again.

Sure. I'll try to reproduce it.

Also I am sometimes having the problem again while navigating back and forth in the tab history, that there's a white block shown instead of the Firebug frame. Reloading the page fixes that (Firebug is closed then). Unfortunately it's not constantly reproducible yet and I also don't know, if that's really a Firebug issue or a conflict with another extension.
