Morning David and Martin,
I am so happy that you responded. I am also into genealogy and would hate for this to have been ignored.
I, too, misspoke…….in looking at the mortgage papers the owner of the home was the estate of Andrew Ewing. The papers were signed by Walter F. Payton, who I believe was a nephew or at least a family relative. The reason John was fresh in my mind was in my research I found a John S. Ewing and Nancy P. Norton were writers of the book Broadlooms and Businessmen which is a history of the Bigelow Sanford carpet company in Thompsonville (Enfield), CT. I believe they are somehow related to Andrew also.
A few items that I have:
1. One leather bound photograph album 9 x 11 x 3 and 11 1/2 by 9 by 2 1/4. Both had metal clasps but only a remains. They were in a trunk in the top of the shed at 119 Pearl Street, Thompsonville (Enfield) CT for over 80 years at the minimum. The outsides are not in great shape but the photos are totally ok. I would venture to say that this family was probably well to do for the time as all the photos look to be professionally taken and are back to the 1800s
There are tin-types and “permanent chromotypes” also. I see that some loose photos are from the studio of C.E. Perry, Artistic Photographer from Woodstock Ontario. Some from C.D. Fredricks & Co Galleries on Broadway in New York; Artist Photographer Miniature & Portrait Painter E. Greyson, Halifax and Talbot Road Blackpool; J. F. Long 45 High Street Exeter; F. Deane {photographer 32 Wincomb St., Opposite Humphrey’s Livery Stables, Cheltenham; a wonderful photo of a large home estate that I would say is England or Scotland, a number of postcard type cards from famous places in London; Brown Barnes Bell studios of London and Liverpool; Paris; Henry S. Wyer, Yonkers, NY; a great formal family photo with parents and 7 children th Thomas Ball photographer of Kiddeminster.
2. A small souvenir book called “Recollections of Malvern” by the Newman Company, London, dated 1873.
Whenever you find someone who would be willing to pick them up, I will have them ready. We are just 15 miles from Sarasota and 45 minutes from Tampa.
