A silly looking, but informative survey of how various critters do it. It should be clear from this that there is no inherent gender orientation defined by the cosmos, beyond some loose probabilistic association of conditions and possible consequences. The Spotted Hyena in particular (second to last) is an example of much larger and more aggressive females.
