The Campaign "Save Water" Closing Ceremony


On 4 June 2017, the closing ceremony of the campaign "Save Water" was held
near the Tbilisi Sea. Tbilisi Sea is the most important source of water
supply in the capital and is an integral part of the system.



The project “Save Water” is organized by the company “Georgian Water and
Power” (GWP) and NGO “EcoVision.” The aim of the project is sustainable
usage and saving of water resources, as well as raising the civic activism
with the help of youth. The project is supported by the Ministry of
Environment and Natural Resources Protection and the Ministry of Education
and Science.



For supporting the campaign, a professional cycling race was held, in which
sportsmen from the Cycling Federation took part. The winner bicyclists were
awarded with cash prizes. GWP organized the race with the partnership of the
Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs and the Cycling Federation.



As for the winners of the "Save Water" campaign, the 215th public school
team, which took the first place, was awarded with an invitation to the
Summer Eco-Camp “EcoVision 2017.” Second and third place winner teams from
#182 and #176 public schools were awarded with an invitation to the
educational eco-tour, which will be organized specially for them.



Campaign "Save Water" was launched on March 22, World Water Day. The first
phase of the Campaign was organized in 16 public schools of Varketili
district and included different educational and fun competitions about water
saving and its sustainable use.

Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania, Deputy Mayor Irakli Lekvinadze, Deputy
Minister of Education and Science Lia Gigauri, Deputy Minister of Sport and
Youth Affairs Shalva Gogoladze and Deputy Minister of Environment Protection
Solomon Pavliashvili made speeches at the closing ceremony. MPs from
Varketili district also attended the closing ceremony of the “Save Water”
campaign.



The mentioned pilot project is the basis of a national campaign of
sustainable use of water resources. “GWP” will organize water saving
campaigns in other districts of Tbilisi as well.
