Meetings with Communities of Villages Akhalsopeli and Zemo Chaladidi in
Senaki Municipality


On October 19, within the framework of “Clean Up Georgia Phase III" project,
meetings were held with the residents of the villages Akhalsopeli and Zemo
Chaladidi in  Senaki Municipality, organized by the local coordinator of the
Greens Movement of Georgia / Friends of the Earth-Georgia.



The purpose of the meetings was to provide local residents with information
on implemented and planned activities under the project, as well as on the
state of waste management in Georgia, international obligations and foreign
experience in the field of waste management. Representatives of Zemo
Chaladidi presented their proposals at the meeting. The population wants to
install biogas and solar power equipment in the village, improve the quality
of drinking water and build a new water pipeline. The problem is still
related to the removal of waste from the village due to the poor condition
of the road, which prevents the garbage truck from reaching the village. In
addition, the frequent contamination of the river River with plastic bottles
was mentioned. Local residents expressed their readiness to implement the
composting methodology. The meeting participants from the village
Akhalsopeli noted that waste is regularly exported from the village,
although the number of waste containers is not enough. Concern was also
expressed over the existing illegal landfill. 33 local residents attended
the meeting.



The meeting in Senaki municipality was organized within the framework of the
project - "Clean Up Georgia" (Phase III), implemented by NGO Consortium - "
The Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia", Georgian
Society of  Nature Explorers “Orchis, “Ecological Awareness and Waste
Management”, with financial support of the Government of Sweden  and in
collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources
Protection of Georgia.
