“Clean Up Georgia-Phase III” Project



Meeting in Mtskheta Municipality

(Mtskheta-Mtianeti Region)



NGO Ecological Awareness and Waste Management (EAWM) continues awareness
raising meetings within the framework of the ‘Clean Up Georgia – Phase III”
Project.



On 20 May 2016, a meeting was held in the city of Mtskheta
(Mtskheta-Mtianeti region). The aim of the meeting was to inform Mtskheta
Municipality on the hazardous waste (in particular, chemicals, chlorine) on
the territory of Georgia and its negative impact on human health and the
environment.



The representatives of Mtskheta Gamgeoba (Administrative Body of the
Mtskheta Municipality), its subordinate administrative units and Mtskheta
Tskalkanali (Mtskheta water management service) attended the meeting.



Project coordinators delivered a presentation on “Pollution of the
Environment with Hazardous Waste (Chlorine) and its Negative Impact on Human
Health and Environment”. The meeting participants discussed the threats
caused by chlorine (among them, the cases on the territory of Georgia),
utilization methods, security measures, issues related to HW management
problems, the role of the government, prevention, etc.



The meeting raised interest among participants, who expressed their
readiness to cooperate in order to achieve the project goals.



Project coordinators distributed EAWM flyers and Emergency Response
Communication Plan among the participants of the meeting.



The project “Clean Up Georgia-Phase III” is implemented by a Consortium of
NGOs “Ecological Awareness and Waste Management”, Georgian Society of Nature
Explorers “Orchis” and “Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the
Earth -Georgia” with the full financial support of the Swedish Government.
